Luke Smith mentions being open with the community and sharing their plans for the next 5 years and then proceeds to drone on about Destiny becoming an 'evolving world' so that vague statement that is void of any detail is Bungies plan for the next 5 years? I guess this is going to be like any other 5 year plan...

If daily player population figures continue to slide, I suspect Bungie will look to exit Destiny swiftly. 600 staff @ $50,000 average per year. Big facking problem.

  • The player count is healthy. Nobody is playing currently because new content is just two weeks out and people are enjoying things like WoW Classic and BL3. Also, where do you get $50,000?! The average person to employ would be much greater than that.

  • They literally talk about what they mean as a single evolving world. Rather than make each season a single, seperate story, they are structuring the seasons to where they each lead off of the previous. Season 9 will be caused by season 8 and then season 10 will be a result of season 9. I don’t know how you missed that.

  • Be quiet and look at context he's referring to in the future.they don't know what they're doing 5 years from now.

  • So essentially they're being open and honest about having no idea what to do. Even better 👍

  • It really depends on what type of hardware will be available by then. I'm sure they have an idea what they are doing in the next 2~3 years since they probably already have next gen dev kit consoles that they're working with.

What are you doing with your living room in the next 5 years? Hope you communicate that with youre wife. If not you're being open and honest about not knowing what you're doing. Again context fool. Y'all love to cherry pick anything to complain about you know damn well what he meant yet take his word at face value.

  • Bad analogy. My living room isn't a company whose purpose is to generate profit.

  • So? What does that have to do with the point of someone taking something at face value. Like I said no other company knows what's happening in the next fives years in detail and bungie and set expectations on what they would LIKE to see in the future of their game but we all know how's that may and change as times goes on.

  • Any company that going to survive had better have detailed plans for the next 5 years. You have to be responsive to change but you definitely have to have a clear and detailed plan 5 years out. Apparently you’ve never managed a successful business.

  • Seems like bungie has am I right?. My point is y'all want exact details but you have no clue what phone apple is going to release in 5 years. But you want a transcript of details from bungie. We all know bungie has a idea for this game why are you acting like they don't? You want to know exact details or what? What are you looking for. You know what he meant in the video.

  • I’d say that all indications are that Bungie is a failing business actually. I do not believe they have a 5 year plan for their business much less a 4 year plan for the rest of this games life span. Realistically it’s quite obvious that Bungie has never had a coherent vision for this game much less a detailed plan. What they had was a cool game engine that allowed for awesome movement and not much more. That’s why we so often see the one step forward and two steps back game updates. Parallel development doesn’t work without an overarching vision to guide it. Bungie’s parallel development has failed horribly over and over because they don’t understand this.

  • With that same logic call of duty has failed too. Because every game is drastically different than the original that came out 10 years ago. You need to understand things evolve and one idea may work but maybe you want to expand on this idea or that one. I think bungie vision is guardian Killing aliens with friends or just killing your friends in crucible at the same time with loot. And tell me that hasnt changed now has it? What's changed is how you do those things but to it's core it's the same things and they are expanding and experimenting with different ways to do those very things. Am I missing where they lost their Vision?

  • I take it you never played D1 or have suffered some sort of memory loss. There is no strategic vision for the Destiny universe or vanilla D2 could not have happened. Things like Well/Luna cannot happen if there is a guiding vision for the game. So many poor design decisions for lack of a guiding principle to adhere to. The gameplay is entertaining but the game itself is a chaotic mess. That’s why 30 million people quit playing and aren’t ever coming back. It’s a failing company with a product that could be great if a little professionalism were applied

  • You are completely wrong. Yes the game was shitty at one point or multiple times in it's life cycle. Wasn't call of duty? But yet it still remains to have a true fan base and at the end of the day that's all these games Should worry about. People will leave and never come back but doesn't mean you can't draw I'm new ones to replace them. Which is what bungie is doing and will continue to do to remain afloat. Every successful business will take it's losses with it's consumers but as long as you're willing to take risk, innovate, somehow stay true to yourself and while some succeed and others don't bungie is far from failing in my eyes remember everyone left vanilla D2 and said the game is failing? Now look at Destiny after Forsaken player base came up and now it's time for bungie to build on their own vision and I don't believe theyll lose their core base which I think is a huge amount to remain afloat.

  • But Bungie is doing none of those things. They’ll declare chapter 11 within 2-3 years without a serious upgrade on the management end of things. The 10,000 customers who are left will be quite sad when the servers shut down.

In the next 5 years? Buying a new couch when current one gets too old.. about another year or so. Eventually replace TV cabinet, probably bundle the cables up into protectors and tape it along the running boards. Keep adding gaming/tv related memorabilia to the bookshelves. And there's my 5 year plan. Easy as hell to come up with.and my wife knows it. Context? The context here is that an established, well known developer seemingly has no idea what to do next. This is set in an obvious contrast to other developers of similar or lower "stature" in the industry with well established plans and the ability to carry them out. There's your context.

  • Good for you but I highly doubt you'll do all you said with your wife not throwing in her 2 cents but I made be wrong. But still bl3 doesn't tell you what they're doing In the next 5 years not does call of duty yet bungie is held to such high standards. You know what he meant in the video. they give us timelines and those images of future events ( name escapes me at the moment)

  • Roadmaps I think you mean. My point here is that for all the talk of openness and transparency, every new release brings with it things that weren't covered and are hated. But by that point there's no chance of a dialogue with their playerbase, and good luck getting Bungie to fix anything once it's implemented. And the cycle seems to be beginning again in its trademark fashion. "We are being open" "We have nothing to say"

  • i understand what you mean. my thing is you cant expect them to know if gambit prime was going be as hated as it was when it was release. same with black armory they are coming up with ideas and trying new things. some things will succeed and others will fail. in the meantime we now have the option to buy certain things as we go along, we re not paying 5 years in advance for content and with things coming and going we need to be in the dark for certain things. if not, no surprises or potential lore spoilers. if that makes sense. wait a week or two after each content drop and see if you like it if not don't but or if you do buy .

  • Coming up with ideas doesn't equal them having a coherent vision. This has been clear since D2's launch (clear since d1 really) and its because this game has a lead dev who has never been in this position in his life. I can give a great example why this game lacks vision. What is the experience a players should get if they play a Warlock over a Titan? What is the play style difference between the classes? What type of players are expected to gravitate to a titan over that of a warlock? It is apparent that the Dev team has no idea. I mean this is the same lead dev who said "We dont know what the Darkness is" in an interview. You just made this game about 3 years ago and you have no idea what the big antagonist of the game is? So, what is the vision of the 3 classes and what effect they should have in combat? From what I can tell the Dev team has no clue because I myself cant find how a Sentinel Titan is supposed to contribute when his abilities are all about a slow slog through enemies in a game where many of your challenge modes are just time runners. Also, if you go back to when Staten was in control, the info being released about the classes was Titans were going to be the tanks of Destiny. That they were the class for people who wanted to play heavy armored damage resistent classes. When Luke Smith came in the only difference is movement and skin. They can all have close to the same states and they all inhabit the same roles with only Warlock and Hunters having some sort of utility through their supers.

  • yea sure, i see what you mean in that context. warlocks are supposed to have more recovery, titans had more resilience, while hunters had more mobility at the beginning of d2 . you seem to forget that theirs PVP that plays into this is why that cant expand on those things to heavy. PVE they should be able to expand more but i understand the limitations. You cleary know theirs a different feel for each class as to why some see certain play over other in certain activities. Dont blame bungie for the challenge aspect, look at your fellow guardians and honestly i think we're the reason they cant personalize the classes more because we complain about EVERYTHING revolving around any hard work.
