Did you like Destiny when you played it before?
The game still fundamentally plays the same, the core gameplay mechanics are good as ever. With New Light being F2P, you can try it out in October and see if you want to put actual money into it later.

Oh ok good question, so i did actually play D1, all the way through, i'm a vet. And D2 i quit after forsakens first season pass bit, i might come back after the 17th due to the free pass content now though. However the toxicity and friendship falling kinda lost me, including how the game balancing was handled at the time. If you remember a user by Orion. Me and him tried to help make ideal suggestions and changes for console betterment.

Eh... The toxicity really only exists on the forums, in-game you can find some pretty chill people and you can always back out of any group if it starts to grate on you. The balance changes are pretty much like it’s always been, D1 had plenty of balance upsets, D2 is no different. That’s honestly why I ask if you like the core gameplay. Everything else might change but at least that part of the game stays pretty consistent which is why I keep coming back. It just feels good to run around and shoot aliens after a long day.
