What was wrong with Trials again??

It has been unfortunately confirmed that trials is not coming back in shadowkeep or in the near future Bungie keeps saying it was “flawed” or it “wasn’t what we wanted it to be” but they end there. They forget to tell us the most important piece of information Why? Why do they think it was flawed? What exactly was wrong with it? I think a ton of people would agree that just adding it back in the way it was would be perfectly acceptable. (better than not having trials at all) “It was too sweaty” or “it was too hard/unenjoyable” are not substantial reasons. In fact, many people, including myself, like to gear up and play competitive games of crucible. If anything, the competitive playlist right now is less enjoyable, sweatier, and FAR LESS REWARDING than trials was. You have to win many many many more games to get the rewards you want instead of just the 7 required for trials. I think people would enjoy it more if they knew they only had to sweat for 7 games to get the desired loot instead of dozens required in current comp. So I don’t see what is wrong with just adding it back to the game. It would give people an intentional way to chase cool new gear that is unique to competitive PvP
Edit: I keep seeing the response: “Trials had cheating and recoveries and sweats” I don’t believe that is a thoughtful response because today’s comp playlist literally has all of that plus you have win trading and kill lobbies with the comp playlist as well However, I think that most people would agree that at least Trials was fun. Unlike comp
• why put it in shadow keep when you put it in another season pass elimination is just a test to see if the rest of the community and new people bite if it works we might see trials if not? welcome to gambit prime

    • Since we have Iron Banner and Competitive playlist, I feel like Trials is just redundant. Just my opinion though. They could still find a place for the themed gear though, maybe earn it from Competitive triumphs?

It was flawed because it acted the same as comp only without matchmaking. Getting 6 wins in a row only to lose one game was also extremely annoying, the armors and weapons looked great but it wasn’t any different in terms of stats compared to every other armor in the game. How could bungie balance a mode where only the top pvp players can participate in and reward them for the efforts all while trying to keep the balance of regular quickplay? Just look at what happened with lunas howl, the meta for trials would be nothing but team shots and snipers. Trials would only be a glorified comp. I would love trials to come back too but yeah it was definitely flawed, what bungie should do is simply add trials armors with crucible specific perks for comp. that way we have a reason to play comp, earn perks and armors, have matchmaking and enjoy the new solo comp mode. They could even add a chalice like thing where players unlock perks to earn better loot and stuff. So basically it would act like menagerie but its going to be a crucible thing and comp will be called trials.

    • Hmm... There were a few things broken with the map and emotes early on. ( You could literally walk into a wall with one emote and The game mode itself was boring and combined with the meta it was an awful team shoot fest of MIDA in the early iteration. Respawn tokens over the original infinite respawns was flawed and again made the game mode unforgiving. The 4 v 4 mode made Super balancing very difficult to prevent Super chains when the changes were made to the game preForsaken. Participation was down and DDoS higher than D1 trials but without mercy booms made for frustrating time. The look and lore behind Trials wasn’t as appealing ( I personally like the Nine theme). All those combined led to very low player base which ultimately makes the mode suffer more due to lag. It also would take players from Comp and QP game modes and when the player base was as low as 200k players in Crucible across three platforms Bungie couldn’t afford to split the player base up. Those would be my guesses. Now that the game is faster, player base is larger and exploits to maps not discovered I think they are ready to talk about game modes and eventually when that foundation is completed add in the theme and lore.

    • Trials is unnecessary because the sweats and try hards only get their rocks off blasting normies in quick play. Nobody played it.

Unlike comp

Yes I do not understand the classic excuse of saying it has cheating, recoveries, and “sweats”. Unfortunately cheating will always be apart of FPS games do to the use of it and ease. Recoveries will always when there is a weapon to obtian thats in a high demand where it can be very profitable. “Sweats” will always be apart of the community (AKA people that try and actually want to win, lol.) since they are a playerbase. So I suppose one could list those as reasons but they would not be as nearly as bad in Trials. Trials needed 7 wins which was about 45 mins of work, while compared to the competitive weapons it can take significantly longer (Typically 1-2days at most, longer for some.) to obtain so these problems people face would be much more prevalent in the competitive playlist than it would be in a single Trials card. All in all I have no clue why they removed Trials. Will we ever get a straight-forward answer? No. Knowing Bungie we never will, but rather obtian a cheaper replacement that may or may not succeed at all.

      • It exposed the meta even worse than comp does and the sandbox team couldn’t handle the stress combined with all the other stuff made for a bad apple

        • Until they put some type of Mechanism to deal with cheating it will always be a cheat fest! Crucible/Comp needs to be purged of the cheaters as well. Auto kick for lag and a permanent ban from Destiny for hackers!

        • Luke didn't say Trials as a whole was not coming back, he said Trials of the Nine was on hiatus indefinitely. Trials of the Nine is not Trials of Osiris. Bungie has made this distinction, so too should we. If you really want to jump to conclusions just off the recent information dump, then a more reasonable assumption would be that Trials of Osiris is coming back in the near future.

        • They said that Trials of the Nine is still on hiatus indefinitely. They could be bringing something similar to take its place. I caught this subtle hint when reading the Director's Cut that was talking about it.

They always end up changing the game completely based on something being overpowered in an elimination setting Wanna see nerfs...Johnny try hard will expose anything and everything to take Johnny blow hard to the lighthouse for 100 bux No, leave it buried away forever Bring elimination back if that’s what people actually want Win 9 games and take your blue engram

        • If youre referring to luke smiths post you might want to re-read it, he said trials of the nine wont be returning. Which could hint towards trials of osiris maybe returning if elimination does well in crucible labs.

          • It's actually because of how toxic it made LFG and the fact that people were charging upwards of $100 for "perfect" carries. It created an environment that was overall just disgustingly toxic and elitist and if you didn't have money or a 3.0 K/D/A then you were most likely left out.

Was the absolute lack of Trials participation compared to D1 not enough of a sign that it was flawed?

            • The biggest problem with Destiny pvp is its hybrid p2p setup. It's just something they dont want to waver from....even though it has road blocked them at every creative turn. Its like they continue to use a phillips head screwdriver to tighten the flathead screw that tunes the game mode. If it somehow turns a little....its an update.
