So just last week I left a clan that had become quite toxic and decided to revive my original clan with a few other members. We were hoping to use a certain clan name, but looked it up and it was unfortunately already in use. No big deal, right? Just come up with another name. But out of curiosity I decided to check out the clan that had the name I wanted and discovered that the clan consisted of only one member, and that player hasn't logged on to Destiny since December 2017.
I messaged him on bungie.net, politely asking if he'd consider changing his clan name so that I could use it, but he hasn't replied. I also asked a friend if he can message him on PS4 (I'm on XB1 so I have no way of messaging his PSN directly) again, with no reply. I wouldn't make a fuss about it if the clan had active members, but it's pretty disappointing that I can't use the name I want simply because it's tied to one person's inactive account. Does anyone know if there is a policy about clan names becoming available again after a certain period of inactivity? Or if there's a way for bungie to allow the clan name to be recycled after a period of time? Thanks in advance for any help.

Nope. Bungie will not take a clan name away from someone cause another player wants it. Either message him or make a clan name similar to the one you want.
