Back in 2015 Bungie changed the account logins from their own system to using console credentials. We all had a limited time frame to add a valid console login to our existing Bungie accounts. If you never did that process then the account was removed after a certain date in 2015.
The only way to recover an orphaned account today is if you orphaned it in the last 90 days. Sounds to me like your account was auto orphaned back in 2015 which is well beyond the time frame for an account recovery.
