To even play Dreaming City stuff first you had to level up your character, and that takes boring RNG. Most left because RNG is incredibly boring. It's in everything in this game. That's why normal people said "yeah, screw that, i rather play something fun then do the same thing over and over for a chance to progress to even be able to play stuff in this game you paid for." There's no skill involved, it's random luck wtf. They're completely wrong about RNG creating "impactful feeling" when you finally get something to happen due to luck. Where did they get that from? "Impactful feeling" in video games is about figuring out how to pass something with skill. Whoever that is at Bungie that has this ridiculous RNG fetish, hope they're happy they ruined a game with so much potential. Sorry but RNG in any capacity is boring and "casuals" aren't gonna waste their time on that crap, and neither should hardcores. If any Gears of War game had said "woah, before you get to play this part, do repetitive tasks over and over and over for an RNG chance to level up your character. LOL screw that! Most successful franchises understood that shit's boring, we wanna play what we paid for right now. Extending replay value should be based on fun - because you wanted to do it again, not forced on you by RNG gates. That's why people abandoned the story and didn't bother wasting countless RNG hours to get into Dreaming City for even more RNG crap.

 • yea , thinking about it the game would be much better if there was just once currency and you could directly buy items for that currency in shops with zero RNG

 • The best implement of RNG in this game is Ada's bounties. I grinded this whole week for a good pulse and after 28 frames I got what I wanted. That was a great feeling. But I had control over it the whole time. I was doing some tasks to get a pulse, not praying that I get boots instead of another mark.

 • Other games have implemented this while still using RNG. Take WOW for example, certain bosses/minibosses have a fixed loot pool that will only drop certain items. So if you need a pair of boots you know where to go. Same thing could be done here with the milestones. Or at least a choice between armor and weapons.

 • Have you ever played Borderlands? WoW? Diablo? A lot of RPGs have some form of a RNG mechanic. Which is kinda the idea behind Destiny as a whole any way. If you didn’t know that, I’m sorry. But rng is never gonna go away in any destiny game. Bungie at the beginning of D1 said this is a FPSRPG...so idk what to tell you.

 • I don't know how you concluded I didn't know that. I grinded wayfarer, I'm fully aware. OP is wondering why so many people dropped out. I'm saying it's due to everything in this game being tied to RNG. Most people don't want to grind, they want to play. I understand the genre exists and there's a player base for RNG games. I think Destiny looked like it'd be more action oriented like a Gears of War or Halo, so a lot of the original players came for that. It wasn't that, everything's tied into grinding RNG, so they left.
