<The Legends 2 Grimoire Card for the longest time was my leading theory as to what the Nine were... all of those theories presented in the card itself. After all, all but 3 were proven to exist and some were flat out true. While the true Nine aren't Ghosts who pierced the deep black, ancient Leviathan intelligences from hydrocarbon seas, colonists of jovian colonies that survived the Collapse, firstborn Awoken, or warminds that survived the Collapse, those things still exist. The 9 Ghosts were mentioned in "The Long Walk" and were thought to BE the Nine exclusively for a while. Then people switched to the 9 Awoken, almost forgetting the Ghosts existed, when the Marasenna came out. The Emissary confirms signals coming from the direction of the Corona-Borealis Supercluster. Xur confirms the viral language of pure meaning. The Nine themselves confirm that the warminds existed and that they are stellar remnants. They are dark matter. Xur's existence confirms the presence of the Jovians. The last two are the leviathan intelligences, which have barely been hinted at, and the Nine being aspects of Darkness. Now that I see they are divided, it's just a matter of which side. I don't know if the 9 Ghosts are lifeless all the time unless the Nine inhabit them. From "The Long Walk" lore tab it seems that they in of themselves have their own personalities. Perhaps they just go lifeless for a bit until they can wake up from whatever coma happens when a near-god steals your body then leaves.>
