It's likely that the ninja is responding how he was told to respond. But there is definitely an issue for the OP since he threatened to [b]KILL HIMSELF[/b] if cayde didn't come back. Like, I too was attached to cayde, but I wouldn't kill myself over his death.

I just learned about this myself. Tragic. Worse than when I entered a similar mental state a year and a half ago, roughly. I hope she gets help.
