A few books that I have read, begun reading that are quite deep are: The Qu'ran Communist Manifesto Origin of Species The top 3 biggest things that stand against what I believe it as a Christian who is pro capitalism.

If you want to read about evolution don’t read Origin of Species (sounds ironic but it’s true). The science in it is waaaaay out of date (it was written 150 years ago after all). He wrote it before we knew anything about genes and before we understood the mechanisms of how evolution works. Reading Origin of Species would give you a very limited understanding of evolution compared to modern books about the subject. Plus the style of the writing is quite difficult to understand. If you want a much more modern and up to date book on evolution that actually details how evolution works (with genetics) I would recommend one of these: Why Evolution Is True by Jerry Coyne The Blind Watchmaker by Richard Dawkins The Making of the Fittest by Sean B. Carroll Question though. Why do you say that evolution “stands against” Christianity? Plenty of Christians believe in evolution. Even the Catholic Church has officially declared evolution true.

  • I may check out the other books, thank you for bringing them to my attention. I would say that it stands out against Christianity for a couple reasons, first, it is a way for people to explain the world we live in without a creator. Secondly, it goes against that man is created in God's image, and that Adam was made from dust and Eve from one of Adam's ribs.

If you take a strictly literal view of genesis then it would be a problem yes. But plenty of Christians accept evolution and maintain their faith. So it’s obviously not necessary to give up Christianity in order to accept evolution. I would say if your religious text conflicts with reality you’ve got two options; deny reality or re-interpret the religious text.

I am not here for a debate on Atheism and evolution and their flaws I believe are there. Just here to put down a few books and answer a question you had. Edit: Added "evolution"

  • Great. Though technically atheism and evolution are two separate and unrelated things.

  • While on the subject, You're Inner Fish is quite good.
