To Be a Guardian (Part 2) (Final Entry) (FanFiction)

Previous Entry: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/249969955?sort=0&page=0
Disclaimer: This post is Fanficiton, which is allowed in #Lore as declared by dmg04, link here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/249545832?sort=0&page=0&path=1. You are well within your rights to instantly downvote, but there are also alternative solutions that are more long term. 1) If you wish to no longer see any of my FanFiction posts, please block the tags #Fanfiction or #Biocatarus. By doing so you will never again see any Fanfiction-related works from me in the future. 2) You can also simply mute my profile if that’s prefered, but understand that I will be doing traditional Lore posts later down the line, and this option would hide those as well. As always I thank you for your time, and any feedback is appreciated.
The following is a transcript of events captured by Tower cameras on the date of [Redacted]. This document is only available to Vanguard Officials under the security code DESERTER. ~Won ekat ym lanif tfeht...tsuj rof uoy... ************************************************************************************* [Access Granted.] (The Warlock Apheyra is leaning on a railing, facing the Traveller. The night sky is causing her eyes to squint, as she appears to be writing in a worn out journal. It’s stained by what are presumably tear drops. Thanks to footage captured by an overhead drone, a copy of the entry she’s working on is available.) (Journal reads as follows:) I miss you... Why did you have to go? I know why, but… I just want… I want… Please, if only you’d give me a little more time. Please... What am I doing… I can’t bargain with the dead… but maybe, maybe you’re still there... Can I still hold on to that hope, even if all others are gone? I just feel so... lost... I need to stay focused… You would have wanted that, right? He’s... not like you. For one thing, he’s struggling with the Light. He can’t seem to grasp it, almost as if he’s trying too hard or is unwilling to take his time. When I was teaching him today, he grew angry so fast… I tried to calm him down, I really did, but- (Apheyra stops writing as a Titan, Biocatarus-3, walks onto the courtyard. He looks up at the sky, his hands closing into a fist.) (After a few seconds he relaxes slowly. He moves towards Apheyra, who has been standing still since his appearance.) (Biocatarus-3 rests on the railing, standing a few feet away from the Warlock. She stares at him, and her hands are shaking slightly. He appears not to notice at first.) BC-3: “You’re staring again.” (Apheyra quickly looks away. It’s clear his presence is bothering her. He senses this and tries to spark a conversation to alleviate the stress.) BC-3: “You know, if I were you, I would have tried teaching in a different way.” (Apheyra shows signs of interest, likely trying to determine if the Exo has remembered something from his past.) A: “How so?” BC-3: “For starters, I feel like I wouldn’t spend ten minutes explaining that grenades go boom.” (A small smile materializes on Apheyra’s face. It appears that statement has reminded her of something.) A: “So you’d prefer if I… did something different?” BC-3: “Yeah, just-What are you-!?” (Apheyra suddenly moves behind the Titan. Before he can react, she pushes forwards with her hands, useing a gust of Light to send the Titan flying off the edge of the Tower. He struggles to boost his way back, but fails to accomplish any sort of momentum, tumbling into the fog below.) (Roughly 4 seconds pass, then his Ghost resurrects him on solid ground. He gasps for a moment, shocked by the experience of his first known death.) BC-3: “What the hell was that for! You… killed me.” A: “I’m sorry! I thought you’d remember…” BC-3: “What! What would I remember!? How much of a terror you are!?” A: “No… I.. I meant... I’m trying to help you get through this.” BC-3: “Help? Riiight. But shouldn't teachers know what their even doing!” (Apheyra starts to speak, but Biocatarus-3 interupts her before she can say a word.) BC-3: “How could you know what it’s like? Waking up each day with the face of a dead man, forced to live in the shadow of his expectations! You know nothing.” (Apheyra has a look of grief, as if realizing the identity of the stranger before her.) A: “You really aren't him.” BC-3: “I know! I know...” (He takes a deep breath) “Have you seen how people look at me? There’s always this moment of recognition, the part when they go ’Oh hey 2, killed another god yet?’ And here I am... unable to make even a damn grenade.” (To prove his point, Biocatarus-3 tosses a spark of Arc Light into the sky. The projectile vanishes in half a second.) BC-3: “I won’t… I can’t live up to him.” (The Warlock moves towards him, attempting to rest her hand on his shoulder in a comforting gesture.) “Biocatarus...3, I do understand what you’re going through, I do-” (He pushes away her hand, and starts to leave.) A: “Just tell me how to help you!” (The Titan vanishes without saying a word. Apheyra considers following, but ends up staying where she is.) Addendum: Based on this event, I highly recommend we keep a close eye on Biocatarus-3. In his post-reset state, he has grown critically unstable and is likely to become a danger to his peers. We all know what happens when a Guardian falls. However, further observation is required before a verdict can be decided. If we confront him too early, he might spiral into a mental decline far faster than he is right now. Regardless, I can only hope that we act before it’s too late. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~I epoh uoy evah degludni ym stfig fo egdelwonk. • Believe me I would tell you if I had any criticisms, but I honestly do not. The emotional struggle between the two is very well written. The way you portray them both is very human, and so were their reactions. Can't wait for Book 3! You have my time.
