LfD - Gambit, Shin Malphur and Dredgen Yor
I wouldn’t really put this into the contest due to me not being the most active, don’t put the series into my hands all I’m saying, now let’s get into some lore.
So, to understand the whole shabang of Gambit, we’re gonna have to go a bit back. Way back to the dark ages. The dark ages was a time when legends like Lady Efrideet and the notorious Dredgen Yor originated. Let’s open up with Rezyl Azzir. Rezyl Azzir, human, male, was revived at a time when guardians were only known as Risen and titans were not called titans and the Last City was an unnamed area. Rezyl Azzir helped protect refugees on their way to the Last City. Soon the faction wars began, a war between, well factions, including FWC, DO, and NM. Rezyl decided to fight in the Faction Wars and he became known as a leader and champion. Something else was stirring up as well, the Fallen. Rezyl Azzir helped unite the Risen and made them know as they are today, Guardians. A popular story of Rezyl is that once he killed the house of devils kell by intentionally dying to them then being revived only to strike the Kell down. The downfall of Rezyl Azzir Rezyl began having nightmares, so like any sensible person would do, went to the moon, alone. There he encountered, Xyor, the Betrothed. Xyor said Rezyl will fall, hence the title. He then killed Xyor’s knight. He then combined the knights bones to Rose, his handcannon. He took it and left to the Last City. The rise of Dredgen Yor Soon Rose began corrupting Rezyl Azzir, turning into Thorn then Rezyl took up the title of Dredgen Yor I once saw this analogy of Rezyl and Dredgen (Credit to AssassinNWW) Think of it like this, Rezyl being a hopeful titan compare him to Anakin Skywalker, Dredgen Yor a corrupted hunter, think of him as Darth Vader. Rezyl corrupted to Dredgen Yor Dredgen Yor then went around killing innocents for more light. Soon he left his ghost, who was trying to steer him away from the darkness on Mars. Although his reasoning of killing everything is unknown, it is believed that the hive magic that was infused into Thorn could’ve led him to to this. Shin Malphur Linking straight from Dredgen Yor, we get Shin Malphur. Shin Malphur and his parents were killed when he was an infant, but was revived by a ghost that was traveling with them, but then the ghost was destroyed by the fallen. Soon he was adopted by a refugee group which was in the snowy mountains and they settled a town named Palamon. One day Shin watched a guardian walk into the camp. Shin gained an immediate interest as he approached him. The guardian offered Shin his revolver. The guardian introduced himself as Jaren Ward, and his revolver the legendary Last Word. Over the course of multiple months Jaren stayed. But the leader of the camp, a bit of a tyrant named Loken, had 9 of his men point guns at Jaren and demanded for him to leave. So, Shin picked up the Last Word and fired the shot that would kill Loken, square in the eyes. Palamon was freed from his tyrannical rule. Jaren Ward stayed over the next couple of years. There was word of a fallen attack nearby so Jaren and some other men went out. Leaving everyone else behind. The death of Jaren Ward As the title suggests, the death of Jaren Ward The next day after Jaren left, there was a stranger named Dredgen Yor who arrived. Dredgen Yor continued on to kill all of Palamon’s inhabitants leaving Shin alive. When Jaren came back Shin told him at once. As Jaren and his group hunted down Yor, they had 4 people join them on the way. Dredgen Yor killed 3 of them and continued. A bit later, they finally tracked him down again. Jaren and Yor had a shoot out a bit of a distance from the group. Jaren lost the fight but his ghost returned to Shin with the Last Word. Shin Malphur is now a guardian To my knowledge Jaren’s ghost transferred to Shin without having him die, but correct me in the comments if I am wrong. But now Shin as a guardian on the path to vengeance was a bad thing for Dredgen Yor. The fall of Dredgen Yor Shin made the final confrontation of Dredgen Yor at an area known as Dwindler’s Ridge. You see, Yor actually wanted for this to happen and he even worried that Shin wouldn’t even show up. So Yor got answered by possibly the first golden gun solo super in history. Shin fired two shots from the flaming Last Word then emptied the last one to ensure Yor’s death. Shadows of Yor The shadows of Yor are a group of guardians who idolize Dredgen Yor they even use replicas of Thorn, his signature weapon. They believed Yor was innocent and they even tried to avoid corruption. Things started to get fishy when they just killed guardians in the crucible for the hell if it, they avoided the objectives as a matter of fact. Shin decided to go out hunting these guys to ensure another Dredgen wouldn’t rise. They all separated to avoid being killed by Shin. The Drifter Known as the host of Gambit, there is not too much known about him, but what he did is that he gave Shin a tip about Possible spoilers as this will be involved in the quest “The Draw”
Drifter gave Shin a tip about a man named Callum Sol, a shadow of Yor. So shin got down to business and went to kill him. Callum stabbed his own ghost, destroying it with a projectile from his thorn replica. Shin fired a round from his golden gun which can be seen in future content.
Why does Gambit matter in this? The Drifter and Shin Malphur work together to hunt down anyone who is a bit suspicious in Gambit. Drifter just runs the thing and Shin does the dirty work.
