Insane loading times
I made a post about this in the consoles section of the forums and am basically bring given the run around by whoever has responded there. This is a serious issue impacting both consoles (albeit a little less noticable on the ps4 pro and even less on the Xbox one X which further process my point that it's an optimization issue for consoles to handle all the content).
The issue is this: loading times. The loading times have increased substantially since warmind. Forsaken made it even worse. When I say loading times I mean literally every type, from traveling into a planet, loading into a new patrol sector (greatly can impact times things like nf), and opening the inventory screen (impacts the entire game especially when in need of switching weapons for any reason).
I have pinged people from both consoles in a FB group of thousands and it's pretty unanimous that the issue impacts both consoles. For some perspective, I own a less than one year old Xbox one S. I regularly clear the cache. I have 200 mbps internet speed with very rare and far apart problems and I reset that regularly as well. I still have these issues of loading. As stated previously, it wasn't bad at launch though the inventory had always loaded a bit slow but since warmind and Forsaken that's gotten far worse and sometimes it takes 2 minutes just to load into a new patrol area. I'm always behind people in strikes.
All that being said, the game needs some kind of optimization at least for the older consoles to be able to stop this. I'd love if this info was passed on to the appropriate team to investigate and possibly my address this issue.

This isn’t an expansion issue for me. It’s a D2 issue. Personally been complaining about the inventory load items since pre Osiris. Forsaken did make it worse. They stated they fixed this but I do not notice a change on my end. I rock an Xbox one X and an external 1TB Hd. Everything is on the hard drive not my xbox. Why are you so slow.

Bumping again, my friends that I play with (both have Xbox one x) are also starting to noticed increased loading times. I wonder how was Bungie is going to let this get before they even acknowledge it's an issue?

1 ReplyPs4 user here, the normal one with 1tb memory. I also have a stable 160+mbs download speed and i agree, the loading times have gone up alot simce forsaken for me. Especially the inventory is very noticable.

Yeah it takes about 20 seconds to load my gear when I open my inventory.

This should have been fixed straight away. What good is making the game better if it plays terribly on consoles, the busiest platform.

Edit: There seem to be a lot of people not understanding the point if this post. If you're coming here just to comment that "You should buy a PC or Xbox one x" you're entirely missing the reasoning behind making this post on forums. Yes, I'm well aware upgrading may somewhat help the issue, but that isn't an option for everyone and Bungie should be able to do something to alleviate the issue. Yes, I'm aware this issue doesn't effect EVERYONE but a good majority of the people agree it's an issue and I have personally along with others tried to fix the issue by doing what Bungie suggested to fix the loading times to no avail.

Most games have long load times, especially thos4 with large areas/people. I have a ps pro and i thought great half the loading times probably but nope. I timed it next to a regular ps4 and the pro was 2 seconds faster. You just have to deal with it or buy a £2k PC

I actually noticed it on the Xbox one X. I thought it was odd and annoying. I can't imagine how bad it is on the original xbox one.

Edited by ecto69: 9/20/2018 12:33:24 AMI have read "War and Peace" while on load screens LOL Loading into strikes with a firetem leader running a XBOX 1X is fun, The first room/cave is cleared by the time I land so less work for me LOL Bungie should have spent some of the 1/2 billion dollars to build an updated graphics/game engine and not use the caveman edition. that takes 8-12 hours to just load a map so one can make fixes/edits to it.

2 RepliesI completely agree. All of my Xbox friends are seeing the exact same thing since Forsaken dropped. Not only just moving around the system, but innumerable "Loading" messages while your frozen in position. Not only is this happening in new areas, even old areas from seasons 1, 2 and 3 are now exhibiting this and that never happened before Forsaken. Frankly, they should change the name of "Forsaken" to either "Loading" or "Frozen". :)

9 RepliesIf you are always loading in behind people on strikes then how can the issue impact all consoles? It makes no sense. While I agree that the loading time has gone up a little bit (the loadout screen substantially) it’s taking nowhere near 2 minutes for me to load into a new patrol area. I have a year 1 normal 500gb PS4 that gets really hot, has certainly seen better days and I’ve never once cleared the system cache. I definitely agree that loading times have risen but if yours is taking 2 minutes to load a patrol area you are either over exaggerating or there is some kind of problem on your end

I think Bungle nerfed loading times as an artificial way to extend play time. Before any Desticle gets their panties in a bunch and starts clubbing me like a baby seal, I write this with sarcasm.

Totally agreed. did our dropship, planetary background, and warp sceen contribute to slow loading? If yes, I prefer to remove all of that. Because gameplaywise those thing didnt give us any value

7 RepliesI don't think the problem can be "fixed" per se without sacrificing something else. I, too, play on an original console. I still use one of the OG Xbox Ones to this day... that being said, I don't think the problem can be cured. Destiny II is simply ahead of the specs of most older consoles except the Pro and especially the X. Unless they were to reduce graphical quality, reduce visual effects and ambient effects the load times will probably remain consistent.
