What kind of parties do you assemble when given the chance?

I think that Labyrinth of Refrain game I noticed the trailers for is why I’m making this thread, but it’s certainly not the first game that’s offered a chance to build your own party, persons involved and all. I think of a few other games that let you build your own adventuring party. When given a chance to choose 4 classes to build your own adventuring party, how do you typically build them? Do you provide go with a classic setup of fighter, mage, thief and cleric? A couple of hard hitters with two types of support behind them? Declare that rules don’t stop you and beat the entire game with just a jester or something?

  • Tank phys/melee damage mag/range damage support/healer Pretty basic setup, works well in most games that it's doable.

  • If you're going to post pics of Warhammer Quest, at least use the original and not that pale imitation.
I own both, and the card game, but the original is far and away the best.
• Is “badly” a valid answer? Generally speaking, I like support focused teams. If you can outheal any damage coming in you can’t lose, right? I think that just stems from the fact that in multiplayer class based games I’m also always support.. Kinda just what I know how to do.. Of course, there are exceptions. In Pokémon for example, I tend to firstly pick the cutest Pokémon, and then go as high damage output as I can, only rarely using things like heals, or stat manipulation. I think my favorite party I’ve built was in Steven Universe: Save the Light. We had Connie, who has an ability to shield an ally, and take all damage for them, Greg, who can give out AoE heals around him, and Peridot, who could drop turrets. What this resulted in was my healer constantly healing his protector, as my many turrets chipped away at enemy’s health. Good fun!

      • Healer Support Attacker Attacker Often the roles overlap, but as long as the party contains someone who can heal the entire party, someone who can deliver high damaging attacks and someone with supporting spells, I'm satisfied.

      • This is the type of party I assemble

      • Usually a heavy hitter, tanky character and two supports. In games where it's 4 players each playing a role, I'm usually the taunt, drawing a ton of attention and running to let my team deal with the mess I brought upon myself.

      • If we're in a heavy narrative-driven RPG, I like to form my party based on how much I like the characters. For example, in Mass Effect 2, I didn't care if the team didn't have the best combat synergy, but I had to have Tali and Legion go with me because they were awesome.

      • Generally I prefer a balanced team, example, my current team setup in fire emblem heroes
Black Knight - frontline heavy hitter, usually I put him anywhere that protects the rest of the team Legendary Lucina - mobile archer, usually used for bold opening strikes and taking out close range heavy hitters Azura - provides additional actions and can participate in close combat if needed (She beat Zelgius once in a 1v1 which was hilarious) Veronica - buffing, debuffing, healing and ranged damage
WH40K 2000 point imperial knights list
for those rare times I field the full list Castellan and crusader provide a solid fire base, the gallant's job is to get in close as soon as possible, and finally the paladin cleans up whatever needs to be killed that turn with a versatile weapon loadout
I've got more but they all follow the same line of "two units for a firebase, close combat heavy hitter, backup plan" Problem with this is, while I've got a way of dealing with literally any problem, any loss hurts since I usually don't have a way of replacing it

        • Depends. Classes vary greatly from game to game. In kingdom hearts, I’ll build my party members to give sora as much power as possible. I just wish the Donald’s AI would actually heal me when I want to get healed. In pokemon, I absolutely love bulky offense teams. Things that can both take damage and dish it out. Giratina, me, zapdos, primarina, and tyranitar are the type of pokemon I love to have around TL;DR It depends on the game
