DFP Contest Submission: Deimos' Darkness Post 2 (FINISHED)

Due to character limit this thing had to be broken into two parts. Sorry if this seems excessive, I didn't know I had already passed far over 10,000 characters by this point and I didn't have enough time. If you haven't read it, post one is here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/247368481?sort=0&page=0 PART 5: The Might of Savathun The Echo of Savathun yelled, “This may be a mere projection, but it will be more than enough to destroy you!” Suddenly, I felt an overpowering wave of darkness. It was strong here - too strong for us to use our supers. Then I saw a gilded Cabal centurion enter with at least a hundred cabal. The Echo smirked and said, “Good… You will serve me well.” She then proceeded to extend her arm. From it came a tendril of darkness which enveloped the cabal and made them disappear, presumably Taken. With our supers unusable, we fought with our guns instead - me staying back and sniping with my Tarantula and using my Frostmire’s Hex on the Taken she summoned, Axon running around with his Mida Multi-Tool, and Varthon using his Sweet Business to mow the enemies down. Fireteam Abyssal was faring well. The Echo herself had the ability to summon Taken, summon blight to slow us down and weaken us, fire blasts of darkness, cause a blight to explode, and could also shield herself temporarily. We tried and fought as hard as we could, pouring all of our effort into taking down this echo after clearing the enemies. I pulled out my Complex Solution and ran in, trying to sever and slash at the Echo of Savathun. I faltered on a strike and the Echo caused an explosion at its location, knocking me far to the side. I was weakened enough - that blow left me unable to move. My ghost wasn’t able to heal me. I watched as the Echo easily left Axon and Varthon unable to move as well, and disabling Fireteam Abyssal. I took a look at my surroundings - the ones which could be part of my grave. Tall stalactites sharp enough to penetrate an Exo’s body, stalagmites with the same feature, a white rock which glowed purple someho- Wait a moment, I thought. That’s no rock. “Alder…” I said weakly. He appeared and I pointed towards the shard. He understood and separated his sphere from his shell bits. I suddenly felt a rush of energy as the Light returned to me. I stood up, looked around and saw Varthon, Axon, Roran, Serenity, and Arjac rise again. “NOW IS THE TIME! DESTROY HER!” I yelled. We proceeded to all activate our supers - Roran placing a Ward of Dawn near the enterance, Arjac throwing a nova bomb at the Echo of Savathun, Serenity firing her Shadowshot at the Echo, Axon activating his Golden Gun, Varthon activating his Hammer of Sol, and me activating my Dawnblade. But it was strengthened as I realized that the shard was granting us a Boundless Light Zone - a phenomena in which the Light is extremely strong in a certain place, allowing Guardians to harness it as much as they wish. The Echo shrieked when she saw this, yelling, “NO! I MUST DESTROY YOU!” We made our final stands - the Echo summoning hundreds, maybe thousands, of taken, and us using our light constantly to take down the Taken. Eventually the echo was the only thing remaining. Everyone except me deactivated my super. I walked up to the Echo, who had fallen to the ground. “Savathun. Do you know how powerful we are?” She looked at me. “Oryx was a fool to launch an assault like that. I am much stronger, for I am the GOD OF TRICKERY!” she said, trying to attack me. All that came out was a small bolt of taken energy. “We’ve also defeated one of your Worm Gods. If we can do that, we can defeat you. But that time will have to wait.” Reaching my hand upwards, I said, “Sword!” and my Dawnblade appeared in my hand “For now, I banish you, Echo,” I said, stabbing it. She shrieked and disappeared in a burst of taken energy. Then I felt a rumble as rocks fell from the ceiling. “Let’s get out of here!” I yelled. We ran as fast as we could, but then suddenly a rockslide came in between us and Fireteam Abyssal. “HURRY!” I yelled. But it was too late. The rockslide had blocked off the tunnel. ----------------------------------------------------------------- [Arjac’s Point of View] “Great. We’re stuck here,” I said. “No duh, Arjac,” Serenity said. I thought about what we would do if we were trapped in here. Our supers were still drained from the fight, so we couldn’t burst out of here. I wondered about what it was like to be a guardian, and if this has happened before. How many guardians were missing, their brave missions seemingly a success but they never returned? Voidwalkers walking the void… Is that possible? Or could you transport things into the void? That gave me an idea. “One moment. I have an idea, I need some silence,” I said. I closed my eyes and reached out to the Light and the Void, trying to weave a temporary portal from this realm to the Void. I thought of the rocks falling through the ground into the void, never to be seen again. Then I heard rocks falling. I opened my eyes to see the rocks disappearing in a flash of purple, and eventually I was able to see Fireteam Infernius again. I saw Ventharok turn around and say, “Axon, Varthon, come here. They got out.” They came down to us and Ventharok asked me, “What was that?” I shrugged and said, “Casually putting rocks into the void?” He stepped back. “No Warlock - let alone Guardian - has ever done that! Well, let’s get out of here - we’ll discuss later.” ----------------------------------------------------------------- EPILOUGE [Back to Ventharok’s Point of View] We got out and were transmitted into our ships, already having a course set to the Tower. I activated an active Vanguard channel, and said, “This is Fireteam Infernius leader Ventharok to the Vanguard, mission success.” A few moments of silence. “Great job out there! Did you get any cool weapons while at it?” said Cayde, his voice coming in. I heard Zavala in the background, saying, “Is that Infernius? We’ve been trying to contact them. Out of the way, Cayde.” A pause. His voice clearer, Zavala said, “Good work out there. We’ll be waiting in the Vanguard Hall when you return.” I closed the channel as we arrived at the Tower and we went straight to the Vanguard Hall. As I walked in, Zavala said, “Good, you made it. Now, what happened there?” I gave him a rundown - the Cabal outpost on Deimos, the Hive ritual, Savathun and her Echo, the Shard of the Traveller, Arjac’s ability to move objects into the void, all of that. Zavala took it in. “This is troubling, to say the least. If that ritual had not been stopped…” He sighed, then continued. “Dismissed.” As we were about to leave, Ikora said, “Arjac? Report to the Warlock halls tommorow at 1400. We need to discuss these void portals.” Me, Axon, and Varthon went to a railing and watched as birds flew by, Guardian ships came and went, and in general just thinking. While we watched, I thought, Discovering and going to places across this world, saving the world from certain destruction, and ensuring that Humanity isn’t destroyed… This is what it means to be a Guardian. And this? Part of my destiny. Hey guys! If you want to read my other stories, find them here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/244734672?page=0&sort=0&showBanned=0&path=1
