Remove Revive Wipe Mechanic From Raids

Excluding the dual primary / heavy weapon loadout, the strangest and least welcome addition to Destiny, in my opinion, is the revive token system for raids; namely the wipe mechanic. Sacrificing player experience on the alter of inclusivity was not the right decision. In D1, the best moments were clutching a boss fight with a player or two down. Aksis Phase 2 was my favorite to clutch with two to three people down; being able to play to a higher level and have it pay off. That is gone. If someone can’t hang, it’s a kick and that is not a fun conclusion to come to. I can see the writing on the wall: easier raid fights. While Spire of Stars didn’t present itself as easy and it isn’t, you’re move from additional mechanics for Prestige to manipulating weapon loadouts and adding modifiers is not inspiring in the least. Maybe it will work, but I am not hopeful, not if it is forced. Prestige / Heroic should include more mechanics and tougher enemies and we should be able to use the most efficient loadouts, not some dreamed up load out by the dev team so that we use their creations the way they see fit. Destiny is built on player decision and seeing you gradually take that away is a bummer. I hope the wipe mechanic due to player death goes away and you guys relent on hijacking player decision making to promote your narrative or your Sandbox Team’s design hubris.

I hate the revive tokens so much.. They make no sense in a normal raid. They are too punishing for the whole team as well.. A forced team wipe because one person was stupid. There are so many things in D1 that worked just fine, the normal raid, and the hard raid system in D1 were one of them.. They were not broken, they gave the team clutch moments that were epic.. The token system just removes this, and is an over all team punishment.

  • I also agree,The D2 raids are no fun because of this mechanic.D1 raids are so much better:)

  • The leviathan (namely calus) would feel 20 x better (and more epic) if we didn't have to die everytime that one guy that doesn't play the game 8 hours a day 7 days a week dies. Incidentally, I think that is a big reason why newbs have such a hard time finding teams. It's a lot easier to pick up the slack when that slack is guaranteed not to result in everyone dying.

    • Just allow for revives, Jesus, it’s a game it’s supposed to be fun. If bungie wants to make it more challenging it should come up with more creative methods than this rubbish.

    • I played every raid in D1 to help others and for fun but the death token system in D2 has kept me away from it. It’s just a stress inducing factor when it only takes 1 person to wipe a raid in D2 and the token just amplifies it ><

    • I agree completely. Bungie needs to quit telling us what to do and let us decide when we wipe and what weapons we want to us. Set loads outs and modifiers is the most ridiculous thing for an activity that is supposedly more difficult.

    • I can understand existence of revive mechanics on prestige difficulty. However they have no place in normal mode imo. Normal mode should be the place where everyone learn how to do the raid . Adding a wipe mechanic just make learning experience tedious.

      • They just couldn’t make the lairs Prestige and call it a day. Instead we get locked loadouts. My God, a kinetic pulse, energy smg and a grenade launcher.. What’s next? Two smgs and a sword? Holy shit....

      • This was a main reason why my raid team fell apart so fast when they released the raid. I really wish they would retcon this decision. It would be the best retcon they have done to date.

      • I had to solo clutch Axis with my golden gun and what was left over of the stash of orbs we had in mid. The other 5 of my fire-team all got crushed due to a misread teleport call-out. The entire team called me a god, and I felt great that day. I will never forget that.

        • In Prestige mode I could understand it. But for normal it has just made it a pain in the ass to get new people through. Pretty much everyone I raided with in D1 stopped playing after we did 2 clears of the first raid in D2. (That’s partially because time versus reward was crap as well)

        • I didn't event realise this was thing that I didn't like about the D2 raids. Without the wipe mechanic, it would mean that you could help less skilled players get through raids.

        • VoG is still the pinnacle in my mind. Simple in it's mechanics, but takes time to master. Then added another layer on top for Hard. Wrath is second, and is just as good as VoG due to the fixes it go so you got chances at more loot, and its mechanics again were pretty simple, but put you on the edge every fight. More VoG/Wrath style Raids are what D2 needs.

          • I never played D1 raids and have only completed Leviathan and EoW once each (and done first room of SoS), but with all these bloody plate standing, ball carrying mechanics (I find them an absolute chore), do t you kind of need to be able to revive people? If the raid were more about awesome clutch combat then it wouldn’t matter so much, but these raids are full of mechanics requiring multiple people to pass, so you kind of need to be able to revive people. Personally I wish there were FAR less orb/plate mechanics and more fun combat shooting.

            • Bungie has proven many times. Higher light and logic means literally nothing. (6) 385's doing a Raid and one dies. Well everybody is dead instead of (5) others sucking it up and carrying the extra load. Iron Banner, Trials and even strikes. Your 385 no matter your magically 360 or whatever the area is to make it fair. Fair for who the NPC's we are shooting? Get a clue Bungie we are literally tired of the Grind for nothing and making our light levels mean absolutely nothing.

            • Keep it only for the prestige modes. That makes sense. You know what doesn’t? Switching to Geico can save you up to 15% or more on car insurance.

Destiny WAS built on player decisions, but not any more, they took that away with destiny 2. Edit

              • I'm looking forward to locked loadout Prestige raid lairs. Using the meta weapons, regardless of any new mechanics, is easier than having to use and craft unfamiliar loadouts.

              • I'm with ya. Not sure why they didn't continue the system they had in D1. Normal is for fun and to learn. Prestige/Hard mode were where you put this shit, and the rewards were scaled to the difficulty.

              • Maybe I won't mind it on prestige but on normal, it shouldn't have that wipe mechanic. It's already punishing enough that you got a guardian down that will make ya lose out on DPS and make some of the mechanics harder to deal with.
