I really really hate the Ringed City DLC. Every boss in the series before this DLC had a rule of “hard, but fair”.
But when you play this DLC, it feels like Miyazaki just got a little too into Dark Souls reputation if being hard, and made the bosses of this DLC difficult in the mist annoying way possible. Really big HP bars.
It just feels cheap, and annoying to fight any of them.

Besides midir, i felt the other bosses were very fair. Gaels boss fight migjt be my favorite of all all d3. Epic, action packed, dynamic. I can understand why some may find midir cheap, but honestly after getting my butt kicked enough i realized he has two easy ways to beat him. Wait for your moment and go to town on his head for crazy dmg, or force his sit down and go to town in his tail to chip away... I miss tail cutting tho...
-
I still think none of them are. Nothing wrong with their movesets, but their health and damage values are way too high.
-
The demon prince is a fun fight, Gael is satisfying, spear of the church is...a wildcard, but midir? I despise midir
-
Ugh, I hate the Demon Prince.. And Gael.. And Midir..
-
What have you got against the demon prince? First half I can understand but second half is so much fun
-
Too much health. Same with Gael. And Midir.
-
Fair, I never had a problem with its health pool, granted I used the black knight sword
-
Yeah, that’s the advice everyone gives me, is use Black Knight weapons, but the way I see it, if a boss makes almost all the weapons obsolete, there’s a problem with that boss.
-
I mean, every boss in the Ringed City is still well within “Hard, but fair”.
-
I would be with you if their health bars weren’t 15x greater than anythibg else in the series.
-
Lots of health isn’t really enough to say it’s not fair. The bosses don’t have access to absurdly strong, nigh impossible to avoid attacks or something. They can just take a hit. Besides, their health bar is one of the reason I love the fights.
-
I disagree. The larger the health bar the less room you have to make a mistake, because any mistake you make will affect the entire rest of the battle.
-
Then don’t make mistakes. Easy.
-
Sure, but I wouldn’t call a boss with no room to make mistakes “hard but fair”.
-
Edited by Unbreakable Patches: 7/15/2018 5:07:31 PMYou have plenty of room for mistakes with a Shit ton of flasks.
-
Again, though, the high health (and by extension, longer fight) means any mistake you make has a greater impact on the rest of the fight. With such long fights, and high damaging attacks, there’s still very little room for error.
-
Wouldn’t say it’s enough that it encroaches into “unfair” territory. The Demon Prince is a little sketchy, but generally I wouldn’t say any of them are remotely unfair.
-
Edited by The First Aifos: 7/15/2018 5:13:28 PMAnd I respectfully disagree. I don’t feel any of the bosses in the Ringed City are fair.
-
I really want to be that guy, but I’m not going to be.
-
Edited by shell: 7/14/2018 10:37:31 PMYou mean all of them? While I think Midir has a stupid amount of health, and is just tedious to fight. I wouldn't want Gael to have less health, though. The feeling of just barely outlasting him was too satisfying.
I sunmoned Lapp for the twin demons, since I mistakenly thought it was required for his quest, so I can't really comment on it since he just facetanked everything.
-
Just dodge and hit that big Dragon in the face.
-
To be fair, I only fought Gael once. Because the flippin’ Demon Prince has way too much health. While I thought the longer fight with Gael was cool the first time, from the rematch (after my team lost) onward it simply became tedious. Learning his moves was fun, but knly dealing a sliver of damage? Not so much.
-
Have you tried fighting the demon prince on journey 6? OOF! Such a messed up fight, literally almost impossible. No summon signs either.
-
Edited by shell: 7/15/2018 1:04:49 AMYou were fighting with a team? That might explain it. The more phantoms you summon, the more health bosses have. You're probably at a disadvantage if you summon more than one phantom against a marathon boss like Midir or Gael. Two phantoms will double boss health. Dunno how much health three phantoms will get you, but I can guarantee it's a lot.
-
I only had one. Even so, unless he has less health than the Demon Prince I’m sure my opinion will remain.
