She doesn’t mean states of matter. I think she means as in a state of radiolaria conditioning or something. According to Asher, the taken are committing suicide by taking the vex. That means that the vex thought process can survive the neutrino particle conversion of its medium, the radiolaria. If the vex conscience is able to survive the conversion of it’s medium, it may be possible that the vex can manifest their mind within a medium other than radiolaria, such as another organic being. Also I thought I read somewhere that the vex chassis is made of hardened solid radiolaria.

  • Asher is guessing and all game play and lore shows the exact opposite. The Book of Sorrows showed the Vex getting Taken eons ago and nothing came of it. Heck in both games there has been Taken Vex and the Vex have shown to be scared of the Taken. Meanwhile in multiple strikes and story missions Asher’s ideas are proven wrong. The Vex even let us into the Vault of Glass to get them out when they couldn’t. If getting Taken meant they could take over the Taken then they would encourage it for the power boost. They don’t. Getting Taken is an end game scenario for them and always has been.

  • If you look at the taken grimoire cards you’ll notice that the vex units have a different ending which is “accept the changing blade” instead of take the knife

  • Did you play the mission Paradox Heroic? Pretty cut and dry. They lose when Taken. Asher saying differently, when he is also proven wrong in 2 for stuff he says, doesn’t change anything until a secondary confirmation is made.

  • Yes and no, keep in mind there's an Adventure on Io that sort of deals with that concept. The Taken Vex seem to be making a play for power. The question that comes up there though is what does that mean for Vex identity? They're a Hive mind, if one is Taken it's cut off from the mind and network of existing normal Vex, but if it has it's own sense of agency that drives it as a Taken post Oryx without any concern for going back to the Vex but instead taking more of them, what does that mean?

You mean the Vex on Io that have Savathun, a Hive God sister of Oryx who is hinted at multiple missions to be the one who probably took his throne, attached to named baddies? Sounds like the Taken have a new master, not making independent plays. They are Taking more because they are doing what they are told to do. Remember D1, Taken with the power of Vex machine worlds is supposed to be a super doomsday. That isn’t any different then the Taken Vex that were under the control of Oryx for eons. Hive mind when they are normal Vex. Taking is a “prime” power, gated by Deep itself, not small magic like a Knight or Wizard has access to. It fundamentally alters entities and enslaved them. Because we know after we killed Oryx the Taken were almost inactive. Now Savathuns name pops up everywhere and the Taken are active. Not everything is a grand conspiracy.

  • Not saying it was a conspiracy, and yeah those. Honestly I haven't played the adventure I mentioned since the game launched but I remember it seeming odd at the time. That said I always hope Bungie is doing something more interesting with this game.... They usually aren't. Thanks for talking down to me though, been a while since that happened here.

  • <I think that was me. I recently learned that silicon is a bonding agent. So describing the standard Vex chassis as bronze or copper could also be correct in this situation. The Vex just need a lot of it, but making them is easy if this is the case.>
