I got to rank 50 in two days. Don’t judge me.
Also bungie said that the faction rally catalysts will be available some other way besides hitting rank 50. I guess hitting rank 50 is a way to get them way earlier.

That's the thing. We don't know how those catalyst will be reintroduced after Forsaken drops, so getting them now is the only safe choice of securing them in your arsenal. Because if they become an RNG thing then it's not gonna be worth the grind for them.
