D:LU Ch19 Pt4 Freehold

Legend Untold Chapter 19 Blank Slate Chapter 33 Freehold Part 4 “What are you guys doing here?” I started with the obvious question. “Vanguard’s sending all the monkeys they can to clear this stink hole,” Yvan grouched. “Yep!” Nat verified, “So we volunteered to kick some alien a-!” “That’s why we’re here, too!” I accidentally jumped the gun and cut Nat off, “We didn’t expect to be running into more than a couple others out here, though.” “Well surprise, you got us!” Null flung out his arms as if presenting their group to us. “Oh joy,” Sierra’s voice dripped with sarcasm. “Yeah well I don’t relish the thought of spending a single moment with any of you annoying louts, either,” Yvan declared. “Be nice,” I crossed my arms and stared down the two Hunters. Neither apologized, but they stood down for now. Nat tried and failed to stifle a laugh, making us all look at her questioningly. “You’re like everyone’s mom,” she explained, laughing again after she said it. “Me?” I inquired, and received a chorus of agreement from the others, “How so?” “You always make sure everyone’s on task and playing nice,” Sierra listed unenthusiastically. “You’re always polite and acting like everyone’s neighbor and watching over everyone like their your kids even if they belong to someone else,” Ilya listed. “You look like a sissy, and certainly not like a man, you have the demeanor of a dainty princess, you prance around like a flower-sniffing pixie, and I swear if you had a cup of sugar you would be offering it to everyone,” Yvan seemed to have had a set of insults at the ready for me. That made Nat clutch her stomach and fall to the ground laughing, and got several of the others cracking up as well. “I am not dainty, or a sissy,” I huffed. “You’re too lily-livered to even defend yourself properly,” Yvan snickered. “And you’re a nerd, too!” Drew declared as if it was on subject and blew all the other insults out of the water. “Alright, that’s enough picking on our sweet little William,” Veronica put her hands up in a halting gesture, then caressed the side of my helmet, “Don’t you listen to them baby, you’re wonderful.” “Veronica’s the mom friend that everyone listens to because she’s sweet and hot but secretly scary,” Null pointed out. “You’re the brainy middle child that no one likes,” Sierra labeled Null, then waved her arm at Drew and Trixie, “And these are the toddler twins.” “I’m the crazy uncle!” Nat chimed. “What am I?” Quintel asked. “You’re the boring stick-in-the-mud older brother,” Nat teased, “And Ilya’s the older sister that everyone loves and sneaks me candy!” “Are you hinting at something?” Ilya eyed Nat suspiciously. “Yes. Give me candy,” Nat demanded. “Yvan is the moody teenage brother that hates all his siblings, and Crag is his friend,” Trixie added. “I resent being accused of having relation to any of you heathens,” Yvan grumbled. “Who’s Keis?” Blanc questioned, floating in front of her Guardian. “I am Keis,” the Exo Warlock answered, clearly not grasping her meaning. “…He’s the quiet, thoughtful brother that everyone respects the opinion of,” Ilya finally determined. “And, finally…” Welkine began. “Don’t you dare,” Sierra warned. “Sierra, the bratty hothead sister,” Welkine finished smugly. “You…!” Sierra pointed an accusing finger, but then let out a calming breath and muttered, “You’re not worth it.” “Huh, no pounding. She must be warming up to me,” Welkine bragged to me and Null. “Why is Drew half naked?” Quintel interrupted our role discussion. “What?!” Ilya jumped in surprise, “I thought he was wearing different armor!” “Thank the Traveler I wasn’t imagining it,” Hae, Ilya’s Ghost, floated out next to his Guardian’s shoulder. “Hard not to notice when this is the first time that cultist hasn’t been a pain in the eyes,” Yvan scolded, “Still not something I want to see, though.” “It’s part of a bet,” Drew explained. A chorus of oh’s and ah’s demonstrated that it made sense to everyone. “I want in,” Welkine announced, “What’s the bet?” “We bet Drew wouldn’t last one day without bright color,” Sierra answered. “Five hundred Glimmer on half a day,” Welkine bet smugly. “Six hun-“ Null began. “Whoa whoa hold on,” Sierra stopped them, “We have fifteen thousand Glimmer on the line, each. You need to meet the original standards.” “F-fift…fifteen thousand?!” Welkine was dumbstruck. “How can you afford that?!” Null was equally shocked. “What? Glimmer’s easy to get and we hardly ever spend it on anything,” Sierra pointed out as if everyone should have plenty to spare. I did realize that I myself had acquired quite a large sum, even with buying new gear, weapons and ammunition. “We can hardly afford to stay stocked on ammo and keep our equipment maintained!” Null exclaimed. “I’m broke,” Welkine whined. “I suppose your ineptitude in everything you two dolts do carries over into your finances,” Yvan accused. “Guys, the Cabal aren’t gonna kill themselves,” Quintel groaned. “Wish you would, you ingrate,” Yvan growled. “There’s some Cabal over there,” Drew pointed through the gaping hole in the building next to us, where the Cabal from earlier had now backed further in to avoid the attention of such a large group of Guardians. “Perfect,” Sierra and Yvan both brandished their weapons, then shifted away from each other uncomfortably. “Me first!” Drew shouted and bolted inside. “No fair!” Nat laughed, following close behind. “Let’s go!” Trixie cheered as she ran after them. “Follow the leader,” I waved my hand for everyone else to follow the Titans. “They better not hog everything,” Yvan seethed. “Don’t worry Yvan, Mars is a big place,” I encouraged. “Boy, there’s no world big enough to share with anyone as irritating as that lot of imbeciles,” Yvan skulked onward. “Ah he’s just grumpy,” Null clapped me on the shoulder as he walked by with Welkine and Sierra. “He’s always grumpy,” Ilya whispered to me as she passed. “Crag, too,” I responded, granting a laugh from her. “I heard that,” Crag grumbled. “C’mon sweetie, can’t let them have all he fun,” Veronica nudged me as she walked by, then dashed up to Crag and started pulling him along by the arm. Quintel came behind. “What a bunch of misfits,” I chuckled, then pulled out a sidearm and followed them into the maw.
