Escalation Protocol stopped me from getting Sleeper Simulator (much less getting the weapons tied to Escalation). :/ I kept seeing 2-3 players besides me in the same area, but they have no desire to do it. I'm a solo and a deaf player. Bungie still relied on the communications via mics, which prevented me from wanting to do the Raids. Anything else are fine with soloing. No comments on Nightfall as I hasn't done it since early part of Season Two (I think).

  • Nice post. Some people don't get this. They don't realize that the need for audio communication to successfully raid is a major participation barrier to some people who are otherwise very good players. I was thinking about a similar situation I ran into during Age of Triumphy. We were trying to do the Atheon Challenge and picked up a 6th who was a guy who clearly had a major speech impediment that caused him to stutter very badly. So trying to talk on a mic or make callouts was a MAJOR struggle for him. But by the same token, he clearly was a very good player and knew what to do. It was frustrating for us as a team because we really wanted to do the raid with him....and had it been ANY other activity, we would have stuck it out with him....but there was **just** no way we could do it without everyone being able to make those timely callouts. The margins for error in that activity were just too small, and the timing had to be too perfect. We ended up having to boot him, but we all felt like shit about it. Because he clearly was very good, but we just couldn't figure out how to work around the communication barrier. So this notion that everyone just needs to "suck it up" and join a clan...and that they're just somehow being "obstinate" and "lazy" in not wanting to group up and raid.....is bullshit.

  • I ran VoG Hard tons of times, completing them about 85% of the time. I've solo Crota (Normal) many times that I've lost the count, though I did run Hard mode with the team few times. Only beaten Skolas (Prison of Elders) once and I have no intention of doing it again. Did complete King's Fall Hard around 20-30 times (rockin' cool Titan KF Armors with Ascendant Plane shader). Wrath of the Machine....Did attempt it once, but never got to finish it, so I've never gotten that exotic weapon. I don't plan on going back to D1, though, since my Vault, Postmaster, and character weapon/armor slots are kinda full. As for D2's Raid, it's ALOT more harder than D1's Raid, not in the term of difficulty, but in the term of getting into the fireteam with the requirements of Mic and others and the fact that I may have to 'call out' (because my speech isn't good due to my being deaf). Leviathan: I've played it 2 times. War Beast section is super easy. Bath pool, on other hand, I had to get timing down, but never beaten it. Never done Gauntlet/Calus as my team went separate. On the 2nd try, well, my connection went wonky, so I left and never did Raid again since then. Never done the Raid's Lair, though.

  • Ever thought of messaging him, and explaining the pros and cons ? Maybe he would have been comfortable with saying Yes/No and partnering/sticking by 1 player (like yourself) And being in a group of 6 in a party chat might be overwhelming - but over time and patience (from you all) - he might just find his voice Go find that Guardian ...invite him back

This was over a year ago. ...and he had no problems hearing us. Which is why it was clear that he knew what to do, and was a good player. We spent almost an hour trying to work out a way to get it done with him....but the inability to reliably communicate verbally on his part was just too much of an obstacle in THAT fight. Another raid situation, the group of guys I was playing with would have been easily able to work around him not being able to reliably talk. But trying to usher all six people in a raid team through the portal, and make sure that each player shot one-and-only-one Oracle was just too much to coordinate when you were basically a man-down as far as call outs are concerned. After an hour, we just had to throw in the towel. We didn't just kick him out with no explanation. We explained to him that we realized he was a good player, but that we just couldn't figure out work around to get it done. He seemed to be cool about it, but it didn't do much to make the bad aftertaste go away. But my point is that people need to realize that there are REAL participation barriers for some players....and that "oh suck it up and join a clan" isn't a real answer.

  • It's like they set out to make a mmo like game but left out all the things that make them successful like text chats and detailed (and might I add OPTIONAL) matchmaking. When I go to open the duty finder in FFXIV I often think about destiny and the lack of options, whereas in FFXIV I have the option to have a premade or matchmade party , synced or unsynced level for the activity, hell I have my choice to include English, Japanese, French and a few other language speaking players if language is no barrier. It just frustrating annoying the negligence Bungie has displayed in this aspect of the game, I mean really , you will add a text chat for PC , but not for console?!!!

  • Bungie did not design Escalation Protocol with solo players or a single fireteam in mind. It sucks.

  • The Nightfall is super easy, and compared to the unrewarding heroic strikes, the rewards are way better. You won't even need a Nic to complete a nightfall.

  • Same here for Protocol. Either no one wants to join or those who do are lower lvl than I am and our entire gang can't take down the dumb Ogre. Everybody's lvl gated either due to bad RNG on Powerful gear and/or a dead clan who won't/can't raid. It's definitely limbo for solo players atm.
