Cool post, but one little thing...
You didn't need to raid to get to max light level, you just needed to grind (and grind and then grind some more)
Or so say my three D1 toons that all maxed out...

But how would you get the buffs raid amor gives?

I didn't. But then I think they worked only in the raids in TTK and RoI. Early raids Truth be known I did Crota and VoG raids in D1. Didn't effect my light but I did like the Crota gun that shot thru knight shields and the VoG one that damaged Minotaurs. Didn't do enough VoG for armor but had full sets of Crota (best looking armor yet IMHO) for all my toons. Unfortunately they were un-infusible until nearly the end of D1when they updated early raids and lack of vault space dictated their eeventual demise...

Are you thinking of post April update? (The taken Spring as we called it) That was true then. And then continued with ROI and AoT. Pretty sure 300-310 random drops were in Kings Fall normal and 310-320 were hard mode. Plus the Iron Banner rewards package could go up to 320.
