I actually wonder if Mel Brooks's contract with Star Wars allowed that. It didn't allow IRL merchandising of any sort, hence the "Spacaballs the ______________" all over the place. Not many people know it, but the escape pod footage from "Spaceballs" was actually unused Star Wars footage.
