Erase one horrible tragedy, easy. Probably not what most people would think, though.
I'd go back and reverse the decision to defund the SSC (Superconducting Super Collider) back in 1993. This thing was supposed to be MASSIVE. The LHC in Europe is 27 km long while the SSC would have been 87 km long.
We could have learned a lot more by now if that had actually gone through.
