• Yes. Definitely. Anyone who says that Bloodborne or Dark Souls doesn’t have a story is ignorant. Bloodborne’s story is one of my favorite stories of all time. It is amazing. But it dorsn’t hand the story to you as directly as most games. Bloodborne’s story is amazing, and all in game, but it’s all in item descriptions, the enviornment, and dialogue. No fancy cutscenes to give them to you. And when you connect the dots, and realize the horrors laud out before you, it is an unforgettable moment.

 • Bloodborne certainly isn’t for everyone. But love it or hate it, it is something everyone needs to try, even if only briefly. I’m going to say, there’s a sharp difficulty spike at the beginning. I post specifically where in a spoiler below, but if/when you give the game a chance, don’t let that discourage you. In that same spoiler, I’ll post the name of the location I think you should at least try to get to before deciding your stance on the game.
The difficulty spike comes at the first non-optional boss named Father Gascoigne. As someone who beat the game several times over, he’s among the harder bosses. His location is perfect for the narrative, but gameplay wise, he’s more of a mid-game boss rather than the first boss he is. Try to at least beat Old Yharnam, before judging the game. If you don’t like it by then, that probably won’t change. But by that time in the game, the three bosses* you’ve defeated will give you a good feel of combat, as they’re all pretty different. *Technically, Old Yharnam is optional, as is what I consider the real first boss, so this number “3” might be different
• I agree with Aifos, but I say take it a couple steps further...
you'll reach Cathedral Ward before Old Yharnam. Still go through Old Yharnam, but explore Cathedral Ward after and open many pathways. Before you enter the grand cathedral, (2 staff[?] Users will guard it) Go left and go through Hemwick Charnel Lane. When you've explored every possible area in Cathedral Ward and it's surrounding areas, then enter the cathedral and fight the boss. This will give you a firm grasp on what most of the game offers.
•
I was originally going to say to beat Hemwick, but given how out of the way it was, I thought Old Yharnam was a better stopping point. I definitely think pushing someone to Amelia is too far, though. Amelia is the second big spike, and if someone forces their way through that, when they didn’t enjoy it anyway, Bloodborne’s just going to leave them with a bad taste in their mouth. If they stop around some of the easier bosses like the Blood Starved Beast, or the Witches, they might not like the game, still, but I think dropping on that empowering note, with a feeling of “I just conquered this challenge!”, will leave a better memory of experience overall, and possibly warrant a return to give the game a second chance. Which is why I was originally going to say Hemwick. It’s not only probably one of the easier areas of the game, but certainly the easiest boss.. Just, unlike Old Yharnam, the game doesn’t really push you in that dieection at all, and exploration is one of Soulsborne’s biggest gameplay draws, so I didn’t want to give any directions.
