I've been thinking about how a lot of the armor and their sets, give a story of their experiences...held in data, that must always exist.

  • It is interesting. Maybe more than anything this lore entry is telling us that data, like engrams, can be passed between realities (timelines). To my knowledge, there are three entities that can pass through timelines ("step"). The first two are the Hive and the Vex, both of which can step, but only with the help of the Darkness. The Hive became symbiotic with the Worms, and the Vex took to worshipping the Darkness after being exposed to it by Crota. The third is the Exo Stranger. Perhaps the Stranger's methods of stepping don't involve the Darkness directly, but rather this passage of data demonstrated by engrams like the one this thread is the subject of is the method by which the Stranger travels. She is an Exo, so is it entirely out of the question that she could upload her consciousness ("data") using Vex tech to step? Apparently this isn't a simple operation, because we know Rasputin hasn't figured it out, and we know the Stranger answers to or works with one or more others.

  • (On the strangers note) I was wondering the correlation between the chasm and bridge entries. The chasm seems like multiple people all split looking for multiple things (or one thing, just no real way to tell), the bridge is one looking for the beginning...like before the vex show up in her timeline.

  • Maybe the connection is the Future War Cult? The format of the records is very similar. Also, the CHASM entries seem to rely on the account of the person using the Device, because at least one of the records is listed as CHASM-NULL, likely because the person in the Device died and couldn't tell the FWC what they saw. The BRIDGE entries are clearly first person from the Exo Stranger. Maybe the difference in entries is first hand info vs. second hand? There's also a more symbolic interpretation that could be made, given you would build a bridge to cross a chasm, so the FWC members in the Device don't have a bridge, the Stranger does.

  • So that's something else I am wondering about...one counts down and becomes more stable, the one that counts up becomes pretty garbled if ya ask me.

  • My only thoughts on this is that for both types of entries, the only chronological component is the Record Number. I say this because in the BRIDGE entries, 08.1 is repeated, and is apparently a timestamp given the Stranger lands in different places, completing her objective on the second attempt. The CHASM entries do appear to become more chaotic as the number goes up. Maybe these are a rough timestamp, or a filing system for similar visions, suggesting our odds of survival decrease the further we look into the future.
