Your thoughts on Final Fantasy 14

What's up #gaming! Lately I've been playing Neverwinter on PS4. I needed a break from shooters and felt that dungeon crawling was a good way to freshen up my gaming sessions. So far I've been having fun with it (albeit a little confusing). Well a friend suggested that I download the demo of Final Fantasy 14 and give that game a shot. He thinks Final Fantasy 14 is better than Neverwinter. I never played any Final Fantasy games so I'm pretty clueless to it. I have watched some YouTube videos and it does look nice. It looks just as confusing as Neverwinter when I started that. Well I downloaded the demo (haven't started playing it) and wanted some insight on the game from some of you guys. Any tips? Is it worth getting into? Anybody play Neverwinter and FF14 and can give a good comparison? If I end up liking it, what package should I buy once I'm past level 35? Or anything else you would like to add, like your best class or job. Any insight would help and look forward to reading your advice. Thanks

  • Best mmo I've played, with lots to do, and a good community overall

  • It's the best mmo I've ever played. Think I've got a bit over 200 hours played and I just finished the main quest, haven't even gotten to either of the expansions. Max level is 70, but you can level every class with one character. There's plenty of crafting and gathering classes, so if you just don't feel like killing anything or questing you can just chill and fish or make some awesome weapons and armor, cut some trees. I play a tank, think I'm about level 52. All my crafting classes are around level 30, gathering classes are almost 50. Haven't made it to endgame so I can't give advice on that, but there is so much to do it's crazy. You get bored tanking? Level a healer or a dps. You get experience bonuses when you level a new class up until your highest level class. Enjoy the free trial, think you can level everything to 35 before they start making you pay a subscription. I only paid $30 for the game and both expansions. $12 a month is awesome for a game with tons of content. I highly recommend it.

    • I’ve enjoyed the bit I played. One thing though is its subscription based in case you didn’t know. So on top of the game and the dlcs you have to also pay a subscription. One thing is if you do get into it you could hit lvl 35, buy the game and I believe you get another free 30 days, so you could grind out a lot for very little if you really get into it.

      • I can't give a proper opinion since I have only played FFXV, but I've seen Neverwinter gameplay and it looks good. FF14 is probably good too.

      • As a day 1 player of FF14, I can tell you that it has it's ups and downs. Oppose to what some players say, in it's current state it is far from grindy unless your leveling an alt class. Main scenario quest alone take you to max level except for the an exception at 45-50. Even if you don't want to level that way the alternative option is to run palace of the dead floors 51-100 (grindy way). The only grind for gear is if you opt for a relic weapon and it's made purposely for people who want to grind. With that said the story is pretty lackluster and the npc's make me cringe. The vanilla game kinda sucks with most of the fun stuff starting at 50 and onwards into the expansions. Also if you don't like doing certain things like raiding then there are times that you will have nothing to do due to some updates focusing solely on raiding, pvp, squadrons, quality of life, etc.... If I had to give it a score, it would get a solid 7/10

        • Played it, thought it was grindy (of course it’s grindy, but this was not the fun or interesting kind) Deleted it after 2 months. I am an avid FF fan. 🙁
Any tips?
1) Look up some macros, paticularly ones that let you drop AoEs on specific targets when selected or manual targeting when nothing is selected (especially if you're on console). 2) Focus on the main story quest and ignore side quests (unless their icon is a blue circle with a plus sign). It'll keep you leveled so you shouldn't need to grind (your first class, anyway). 3) Do any and all quests with a blue circle with a plus sign a.s.a.p. They'll unlock useful things like new dungeons or crafting skills. 4) Save all other quests for Discipline of the Land/Hand classes. 5) For power leveling secondary Discipline of War/Magic (DoW/DoM) classes, do fates early on (until level 15 or so) then swap over to either Levequests or Duty Finder > Duty Roulette: Leveling. Palace of the Dead works well too but wait times and PUGs are inconsistent. 6) Duty Finder > Duty Roulette: Leveling and matching the requested class is also a great way to farm company seals for your grand company (unlocked at level 30). 7) Get a retainer a.s.a.p. and send them out on ventures whenever you can. 8) Try to get all DoW/DoM classes to at least 30 so you can unlock their respective jobs (prestige classes) and try them out. 9) Do all the gold saucer challenges. With the exception of chocobo races, you can knock them out in an hour or less (the chocobo races will take a little over an hour on their own). All in all they're worth 70,000 MGP per week (actually more when you factor in winnings). Do the daily and weekly cactpot (mini and jumbo respectively) as well and you'll likely make over 100,000 MGP per week all in all.
Is it worth getting into?
Yes
Anybody play Neverwinter and FF14 and can give a good comparison?
I haven't played Neverwinter but one of my friends who has and he prefers FFXIV, for what that's worth
If I end up liking it, what package should I buy once I'm past level 35?
Just get the basic one. A single character can multiclass in everything so alts aren't all that meaningful beyond a faceswap. The basic version allows you to make 8 characters anyway, as lomg as they're on different servers
