The simple solution is to not get stomped. The stomp mrchanic is to stop people cheesing the boss with repeated hits. How easy would it be, to stand in front of a boss, and just keep hitting them with swords...? Destiny is dumb enough as it is, please do not ask them to make it dumber.

  • Well that wouldnt be a problem if it weren't poorly designed and then just clear coated with a stomp mechanic.

  • Power weapons should be useable in boss battles, and yet, because of the 100% stomp mechanic, shotguns and swords are wholly impractical in boss encounters. The stomp might be fine if it merely pushed you back enough to slow you down some, but most of those stomps send you flying. Move swords and shotguns to the energy slot.

  • So the idea is if we stand back and snipe we are cheesing. If we get in close and swarm the boss we are cheesing. Kind of hard to figure out what acceptable play is here...

  • +1 ^^^this. lol. using swords? doing it wrong/cheating/cheesing. using snipers? doing it wrong/cheating/cheesing. hells, using rockets? doing it wrong/cheating/cheesing. and then, constantly running out of primary/special ammo, and can't even buy/smoke synth-drugs? sounds legit. (lol, even my D1 characters still have a small tiny precious hoard of primary-synths...) although I sort of also chalk it up to a different sort of bungie-laziness/malice (lol how many kinds are there, exactly?) - so, in the new game, tethers seem to do fsck-all to bosses, whereas in the old game, you could actually tether the everloving-shiat out of, say, Omnigull, and have a chance to kill her in the halfway area well before the end battle. guess bungo don't like being showed up like that. "the only winning move is... BUY EVERVERSE!!! friendship-boosters and 3oC will get you everything!" (actually, the friendship things used to work surprisingly well, at least in my experience a month or two ago, whenever the last time I had some)

What makes the ground stomp feel cheesy and boring, is that it seems like 90% of the bosses have it. Shit, they're even giving it to regular red-bar mooks now (flamethrower cabals). There is more than one way to give a boss some close quarters defense to avoid what you mention. * Pilot Servitor (D1, Challenge of Elders) used to saturate the area around him with grenades to repel players that get too close. * Alak-Hul (D1, The Sunless Cell) had a big-ass axe to cleave anyone who wanted to go 1v1 melee on him for more than 3 seconds. The big Hive Knight bosses in that public event on Titan do the same thing. * That invisible bastard with the Lord of Wolves (D2, Exodus Crash) flips things on the players: he actively seeks melee combat, armed with a shotgun and twin swords, and he can blink away if things get too hot for him. These are just a few examples. These mechanics are not necessarily better than the one-shotting-ground-stomp, they are just less used. Anyone of these would be boring and annoying if they were as common as the ground stomp.
