It's not always about getting the perfect gun, it's about finding something good that you like. edit: Something good that is special and different from the rest.

 • Doesn't have to be about getting the perfect gun, this logic can be applied to pretty much any pure RNG system that completely ignores skill and dedication when handing out rewards. It's like the Necrochasm. You wanted that gun prior to AoT? Final step was pretty much entirely RNG, with some players getting the required item first try, and others playing for well over a year and never getting it. Sure, everybody who beat the raid had the same chance of getting it, but that doesn't make it fair. That system didn't take into account prior completions or the sheer amount of time spent on the quest where the next required step was to obtain that specific item. If you beat him on all three characters for that week and didn't get it, the time you spent on the Raid that week was a complete waste, because at that point you likely were just doing it for the Necrochasm. The chance remained exactly the same every time you beat Crota, and that was what made it so bad. Now imagine random rolls from D1. Sure, the weapon you wanted didn't have to be perfect, but when people grind for "a godroll", they're usually looking for a very specific perk or set of perks. It's the very epitome of rewarding players differently for doing the exact same thing, and all because there was literally zero bad luck protection. If there was bad luck protection in place, I'd go for it in a heartbeat.

If you spend time in the game you can get fine stuff if you have a little bit of patient like farming.
Cryptography is like farming, we need to be persistent that our results bear fruit.
•
If you spend time in the game you can get fine stuff if your patient it's called farming.
By repeating an activity over and over, you gain additional chances to get the reward you want from that activity. However, the chance that you will obtain the thing you're looking for is exactly the same each time. Depending on how lucky you are, you could get the thing you want only 20 minutes in, or you might not get it until you've already invested several days. There is a non-zero chance that you can get the item first time, and there is also a non-zero chance that you will never get the item, no matter how many times you complete the activity. That is the problem. You aren't guaranteed to EVER obtain what you're after, and there's nothing even remotely resembling strategy or variation involved in obtaining specific items from a system like that aside from "do it again, and pray harder!" That's why Raid rewards sucked ass back in Year 1, and why the Necrochasm quest sucked until Age of Triumph. There was no bad luck protection, and systems like that simply don't respect the time and effort the players sacrifice in the hopes of obtaining their desired reward.
