Wanna get rid of eververse. Consider this.

So, you think a optional, non-obtrusive, easy to ignore store in the game is bad, or even evil? Think on this. every piece of content will be behind a paywall, so mayhem would be gone behind a paywall (why give away a free mode when you have to pay people to build it?), nightfall will be behind a paywall (to keep it relevant with ever increasing light levels), the leviathan raid will be gone behind a paywall or become obsolete.(remember in D1 when they didn't keep raids light relevant, i do), bungie needs to pay money to develop things, and businesses need to make a profit. eververse sells cosmetic gear. nothing more, nothing less, and it also provides funding to the studio between expansions. Eververse paid for mayhem, masterworks, the dawning, and all the updates that well get for free, including private matches next year. So do you want to stop loosing your minds about a trivial ingame function? for me personally. i would rather have eververse than have to buy membership, or premium access, or a DLC every month, which in the long run, will cost everyone more than eververse ever did.

  • Ok, let's break this down piece by piece:
every piece of content will be behind a paywall
That is a bit extreme, and would only further exasperate this issue. If Bungie did this they would close their doors in a week.
so mayhem would be gone behind a paywall (why give away a free mode when you have to pay people to build it?)
It is already built - was built in D1. D2 uses nothing different than D1 - same engine, same netcode, same base game architecture. All the stuff they are giving us back was literally patches they probably uploaded from D1 and tweaked with minimal effort.
nightfall will be behind a paywall (to keep it relevant with ever increasing light levels)
It kinda already is - Prestige NF is a 330 activity. Need CoO to do that now.
the leviathan raid will be gone behind a paywall or become obsolete.(remember in D1 when they didn't keep raids light relevant, i do)
D1 Year 3: All raids were made relevant. There is no reason Bungie could not continue that practice in D2 Year 1. No reason whatsoever without shaking down customer's for more $$$.
bungie needs to pay money to develop things, and businesses need to make a profit.
They did get paid. We paid them via game sales. That is why we paid them $60 for D2. That is why we pay more for additional content. We already pay them for the content. This is such a bullshit argument claiming they need MTX's to pay to develop content since we already pay them for it!!!!
eververse sells cosmetic gear. nothing more, nothing less, and it also provides funding to the studio between expansions
Ghost Shells offer in game benefits that are not cosmetic. Also, the publisher provides budgets for the studio between expansions...so they can develop content for expansions. Once again, this is not making any sense. You can not claim that me paying more outside of what I am already paying is necessary because if I don't, I won't get the other stuff that also has a price tag on it. No other business does that. Netflix does not demand additional funds to see their specific shows, and claim if I don't pony up the cash they can't make additional content.
Eververse paid for mayhem, masterworks, the dawning, and all the updates that well get for free, including private matches next year.
Wrong wrong and wrong. Mayhem was already a thing from D1, and since this game uses every resource D1 had, this has already a thing. Masterworks were being designed alongside CoO, so the argument that EV paid for it is ridiculous. D2 initial sales/preorders paid for it. Same with the Dawning. Same with all the updates since launch. And once again, Private Matches were a thing in D1, so it is already in play for D2. It just has to be patched in.
for me personally. i would rather have eververse than have to buy membership, or premium access, or a DLC every month, which in the long run, will cost everyone more than eververse ever did.
D1 at launch had none of what you speak and did fine. Worked fine. There were content issues, but no MTX's of any kind. The only thing Eververse got us in D1 was the April 2016 update. Which was good. Bungie fixing their game should not be on us to pay for. That is on them. Don't make us pay for their mistakes. And let's be honest - this is Destiny Year 4. The level of mistakes they have made since launch are completely inexcusable. This is not what we should expect from Bungie. And let's be real here for a second: Bungie has a continuous pay stream already in place. Every DLC/Expansion is already monetized. How many more monetization's are they going to claim they need before this game is "finished"? So please continue your work as a member of the BDF trying desperately to justify Bungie's failings. It is actually quite entertaining watching you flounder.

I feel like a lot of people who make these posts are extremely short-sighted, and can't see the entire problem. You really think this is just about Eververse? It's not. This is about how Bungie continues to put content behind Microtransactions while the rest of the game sufferers from lack of content. Adventures are still worthless, Lost Sectors are still pointless, Strikes still have nothing to offer, Raid Gear sucks, and they don't have any Raid ships, sparrows, or Ghost Shells anymore, Cayde Chests still aren't worth the Glimmer spent on the maps to them. Amanda Holliday is even more useless than she was in D1. How hard would it have been to give her 3 weekly quests that reward a ship, Sparrow, or Transmat Effect? Yet, here we are with the Dawning. More items behind Eververse that are harder to get to through gameplay than the regular Eververse items are. We only get 1 Dawning Engram per character a week, the daily Dawning Gifts have a different loot pool than the Engrams, with even shittier RNG, and the weekly rotating items you can buy directly with Bright Dust hasn't had all the items available. There's also the other problem where the Dawning items don't dismantle into Bright Dust for you to directly purchase the items you may want. Let's not forget that we also have seasonal gear for Eververse now. Where's the seasonal gear for Vendors? So, yeah, this is why people hate Eververse. It's taking away content that could have been integrated into the gameplay loot pool, and sticking them behind Microtransactions with limited ways to earn them in-game.
every piece of content will be behind a paywall
It’s a full priced game, with paid dlcs. What a stupid comment.
Eververse paid for mayhem, masterworks, the dawning, and all the updates that well get for free, including private matches next year.
With as little content as the game launched with, all of this should have already been included with a full priced triple A titled game. You sir are an idiot. Flatearthers think you’re dumb.

      • We all paid full price for the game and many of us for the dlc’s too. If it were free to play, then I’m all for microtransactions. My $80 for vanilla and $50 for dlc says that’s a -blam!-ed up business model.

        • Maybe if Bungie would have better oversight from management perhaps they wouldn't waste time and development recources aka, money, by scrapping a game more than half way finished only to start over twice in a row, maybe then, just maybe they would have been able to release content on time, earned cash earlier on and not have a half ass game, twice, and rely on micro transactions. Just a thought.

          • I won't use it, and I hope you won't either. It's a stimulation of the pleasure center of your brain to induce further spending via gambling tactics. This is recognized by several psychologists, scientists and politicians. Even other/ex-Game designers acknowledge this. We don't want it removed because it isn't something fun. We want it removed because it is harmful. If it wasn't gambling it away for random chance, and instead the ability to buy the specific item you want at any given time (even on a rotation schedule) then I'd be perfectly fine with it. That's getting what you want, not stimulating your brain for "ANOTHER CHANCE DO IT DO IT YOU ALMOST GOT THERE"

            • I am not mad that Eververse exists I am mad that 160 items were added to it for the curse of Osiris expansion (which is how many more items than the items we can actually earn in world activities?) meanwhile Adventures and Lost Sectors drop blues and tokens, they aren't interesting or rewarding to do. And Eververse was created with the idea to fund free live events. It's hard for me to consider The Dawning free when all of it's items are locked behind Eververse and we only get a set amount of free Dawning Engrams per account, not character. And the gift in return daily stuff only pulls from a very small pool of all of the Dawning items. (Also level ups still give normal season 2 Luminous Engrams not Dawning ones). I would gladly toss a few bucks into Eververse if it's item pool wasn't so vast and we could earn more than just a couple cosmetics by playing the game or if there was plenty of in game content for me to grind for. I'm sorry but sitting around grinding EXP for Luminous engrams isn't my idea of a fun end game.

              • The cost of the dlc pays for the creation of the dlc, the eververse junk is a way to squeeze every dime they can from the players. Anyone who thinks differently is lying to themselves.

                • What about the $100 I dropped for the game and dlc? Just call eververse what it is, another revenue stream. It won’t be removed, but there needs to be less emphasis placed on it.

Stop being so naive. Eververse profit is used to create more events for profit, not content rich dlc's. That's all D2 is becoming, they should change game title to Eververse.

In reference to Mayhem. "Why give away a free mode when you have to pay people to build it?" I don't know if you're aware of this or not, but Mayhem was a pre-existing mode brought over to Destiny 2 from Destiny 1. This isn't some brand new mode, outfitted with additional mechanics or assets here. Beyond that, it's not the kind of thing that takes a lot of money to make either. You essentially have a carbon-copy of Elimination, and the developers just have to go in an manually alter the recharge values for guardians' abilities. That's the extent of the work needed to produce Mayhem.

This is ridiculous. You really think they need the extra monetization in a game that costs $60, then sells $20 DLCs in the first few months of release, and will then sell $40 expansions every year for the next few years? You seriously think that these microtransactions are there so that poor BungiVi$ion has the fundings to keep old content relevant? You really think they'd be losing money on the franchise without Eververse? Eververse makes money that goes to the shareholders. Destiny 2 already made a profit, and part of that profit was used to fund Mayhem, Masterworks, the Dawning and all those "free" updates (that you paid for by buying the game, by the way). The rest of the profits went to Activision, and Eververse is no exception. If poor BungieVi$ion needs DLC AND microtransactions ON TOP of the initial purchase price, how could Warframe even exist, being free, providing free DLC and being funded ONLY through microtransactions. You don't need all of it. Activi$ion, and probably Bungie as well, are being greedy.

You realize that they did try and do all of that, right? When the DLC first dropped nightfall’s and the raid were locked out behind a paywall, and the ONLY reason they backpedaled was because it broke Sony/Microsoft’s TOS. Mayhem was already a D1 gamemode, and from what it seems like, most of the “new” free updates are just going to be things that were taken out of D2 that were already in D1. I actually don’t have a problem with micro-transactions at all. I have a problem with RNG lootbox gambling that is specifically designed to be addicting, and get people to spend more money. I actually really like warframe’s system. If there’s something that I want, I just -blam!-ing buy it. I don’t have to roll the slot machine that is other systems.
just FYI, D2 would die on a subscription based pay model because everybody would be done with the game in a month. It actually probably would have saved me money. It doesn’t have enough content to even come close to surviving on a subscription based model.
• I agree on one hand and on the other I understand what they did in D2. I think.... D1 had a plethora of complaints on grinding for the best weapons, armor and endgame loot. It was locked behind the toughest content. Add the rng to that and people were constantly complaining about how long they played or had to play to get X. This suited the grinders of the game because it is what they loved about the game (including me) and made those that earned that stuff have bragging rights over those that didn't. This didn't sit well with the less hardcore and casual fans of the game. D2 solution was to give the hard to earn loot out every easily so everyone could feel special. I never earned so many exotics than I did in my first week of D2. Hell, you could even earn raid rewards if you were part of clan without even participating in the raid. On top of this they added a pay to look good model. That payment is in the form of silver or the GRIND for bright dust which they thought would appeal to the hardcore community. What they failed to realize is grinding to acquire the same loot as the guy who just bought it is unrewarding. I feel if they had endgame rewards that were similar to D1 the eververse issue would be less of a problem. It still needs to be scaled back but it wouldn't be such a hot button. As someone who earned the VOG armor or vex mytho it was rewarding to earn that stuff in that activity and not have it handed to me or know that the guy who didn't play those activities could just buy or get the armor in a cheese way. So I don't agree with eververse currently but I understand that there are two style of gamers to cater to. I think they can bring back the grind of D1 for hardcore while still leaving a "pay to look good" option for those that don't want to.
