Luminous Engrams, What you may not know.

Ever wonder how some players seem to zoom by you in light level in seemingly no time? It's like they have a lucky jet pack made of light that they use to crap all over your hopes and dreams. I'm here to tell you that they may be keen on a little known secret about luminous engrams in particular. For those of you who may not be aware of the terminology: Luminous engrams are the rewards from completing weekly milestones. The jist: They scale with light level, you don't technically "earn" them until you cash them in. Why this matters: Lets say you're light level 310 on Tuesday, and you complete your milestones that day, then cash them all in that day and it brings you to a sweet 316. That's a big jump, but you actually just handicapped yourself for the rest of the week. Here's why: You could get even better gear from them if you boost your light via the raid, trials, exotics and by other means such as lucky legendaries. If you raise your base light level before cashing luminous in, you greatly increase your chances to receive even higher light gear during that very same week. I generally wait until Sunday to cash mine in if i'm trying to level light. Once you've done everything you can do that week, you may then cash those luminous in & enjoy the biggest light boost possible for that week. Originally 310 at the beginning of the week, worked hard to get yourself to a respectable 314 by Sunday. Once you cash them in, you're much more likely to push past that 316 mark & likely into the 320's. If you find yourself having trouble pushing past a certain light level, cash a single luminous and see if that eliminates a soft cap and allows blues + legendaries to help again. Good luck & happy leveling! -Aurelius

 • Thanks for the insightful info for noobs. I'm sure someone can use that. It's now power level, not light level, and I've found that you're actually better off cashing in luminous incrementally to increase your base, supplement and build on that base with legendaries and exotics until another luminous will yet again increase your base, and so on. At this point, this game is a ghost town. Out of a clan of 100, there are less than 10 on the roster at any given time. Considering the next DLC won't drop until April or May, there is no point in racing to get to 335.
