A Message to the Community

Look everyone. I know that there has been quite a bit of disappointing factors with Destiny 2, but honestly, I love this game right now. Yes I hear the majority of the fanbase saying Destiny 2 has no end game material, or I can't believe that Bungie would lie to their fan base , and the token system is so stupid, Destiny 1 was way better. First of all Destiny 2 was not meant to be the same as Destiny 1. It was meant to have major changes. I actually enjoy the new token economy but so many stupid people are complaining just to have something to hate Bungie for. This whole game is meant to be RNG! If you don't get what you want from the tokens then grind again! I thought that you wanted a more hardcore type of game. And to you that are complaining about the Xp system, listen up. XP is not a simple situation. Bungie is giving you free Bright Engrams (a free currency that is normally paid for) so of course they are going to experiment and have a system for getting this item you pay real money for. So the system isn't as accurate as they would have liked, and players are calling them out for lying to us. They likely were so busy bringing you new content and fixing your problems that they didn't have the time to check the statistics of something so small. It's not like they were purposely stealing our time and hoping that nobody would notice! Finally to address the lack of endgame material is Bungie is adding new DLCs just calm down and complete the super fun stuff you already have! I have had so many experiences with games that have been ruined just because of the community. I understand that your expectations with Destiny 2 have not been met, but complaining about it is just ruining the game for me and for new players. Please understand that Bungie won't be any more productive if you are leaving entire threads in the forums about complaining and leaving. If you actually want Destiny 2 to be a great game leave purely constructive criticism. It will help Bungie fix their game instead of discourage them.

  • "It's not like they were purposely stealing our time and hoping that nobody would notice!" You are probably wrong there. Your optimism is a breath of fresh air, and assuming the best in people is admirable. Unfortunately, people are not inherently good, and where there is smoke (Remember there was a system put in place that all they needed to do was turn off to fix the xp gains, If someone built a system to do that then they obviously knew about it) there is a fire.

D1 was pretty good with being able to buy stuff from vendors and obtaining loot drops for completing activities instead of having everything in tokens and engrams. It's your opinion to like D2 but don't be passing it like as if it's good to others.

    •
I actually enjoy the new token economy but so many stupid people are complaining just to have something to hate Bungie for.
That is not the reason people are complaining. Not even close. The complaint is that nearly everything is reduced to a slot machine game paid for with tokens. That is stupid. Why can't we use the token to directly buy things we want? Oh, that is right: because if we did that we would not have a reason to grind grind grind.
If you don't get what you want from the tokens then grind again!
I know, but the fact is there really isn't anything spectacular to grind for anyway. You know, lack of actual endgame and all that? Nothing to chase? The thing we, the community, have been screaming since week one of this game?
And to you that are complaining about the Xp system, listen up. XP is not a simple situation.
Yes it is. It is actually quite simple, really. Completing said event/task = X amount of exp. Bungie actively made it a convoluted system, reducing XP progress by up to 95% on repeating certain events in order to nudge players toward their silver system. They made this complicated, not the "natural" whatever of exp systems in general.
They likely were so busy bringing you new content and fixing your problems that they didn't have the time to check the statistics of something so small.
What "new content"? You mean like Osiris DLC? Yeah, you are right: everyone at Bungie was just so busy ensuring that we get 2 tokens and a blue they forgot all about how people gain exp in their game... smh...
Finally to address the lack of endgame material is Bungie is adding new DLCs just calm down and complete the super fun stuff you already have!
What "super fun stuff" are you talking about? Strikes? They suck, man. Raid? Sorry, but this raid is not that interesting or fun. Crucible? It is boring having to roam with your team instead of being able to stand your ground alone, I am sorry. This teamshooting crapfest got old seriously fast. I have actually started moving back to Halo 5 for multiplayer because it is more entertaining than this absolute mess. Patrols? I have about enough in me to do the flashpoint, and then I move on. Doing the same Public Events over and over again just is not fun. Towards the end of my time in the game I was actively trying to find places where people were not so I could do them solo for an actual challenge.
I understand that your expectations with Destiny 2 have not been met, but complaining about it is just ruining the game for me and for new players.
We expected more from this studio, and they failed us. I don't care if you like the game in it's current state, or if new players are wow'ed by what we were given, but this is not even close to Bungie's best showing. By the end of D1 we had so many cool features in the game: strike medals, increased rewards for continual play, strike specific loot, raid gear that actually meant something in the raid, random roll weapons, exotic gear that actually felt "exotic", stuff to do! My word, there were actual choices I could make, like if I wanted to play a specific crucible gametype (or even a custom match!), or if I liked a specific strike and wanted to run that for whatever reason. Now we get none of that with the added bonus of Bungie, and fanboys like yourself, telling us that liking all those choices was "stupid" and we should play the game Bungie made as they intended and consider ourselves fortunate.
If you actually want Destiny 2 to be a great game leave purely constructive criticism.
A lot of us do just that, but we go unheard. Maybe if the squeaker fanboys would stop telling us why we should like this game, maybe Bungie ould hear our criticism. Just a thought...

    • Nope. Jeff Kaplan at Blizzard regularly interacts with fans thru their forum on Blizzard.net and regularly makes video updates sharing his thoughts on the game and plans for the future. Bungie needs the community to be nicer to them because us bitching at them for staying sealed in their offices and not talking to their fans hurts their feelings? FOH. They're a billion dollar game developer.

    • Perhaps you could go back through and actually read the hundreds of constructive critiques and thoughtful suggestion posts in the forums, or videos on you tube. I can see why people are complaining about all the hate, because there are numerous posts of just that. However, there are legitimate posts. LOTS of them. Many of them are titled ridiculously as well, but hold great context. I am happy that, as a new player, you are enjoying the game. Good on you. It is clear though that the majority of players voicing their opinions and suggestions to fix the game, outweigh the people, like you, who actually like the change to the core game. We didn't ask for a different game, nor did we ask for a majority of these issues. If the community opinions matter, then Bungie will listen. If it doesn't, they will continue to deliver what they think is best, and then they will continue down this road until there are only people, like you who enjoy the game the way it is, left standing / playing. Obviously. One thing to keep in mind is that all this hate, all of it, comes from the frustration of loving the game. The more one loves the game, then typically the more outraged the post. I'm not saying that is a right or healthy way to express one's self, but it is the way some people handle it. Your main suggestion is obviously the healthiest response to one's passion here, for all parties. But let's be real... Most people here are kids, and not that self aware. Again, good on you for trying to change that. Point: I agree with you, except for the fact that there are more constructive posts here than you realize. I feel that if you knew this already, you wouldn't have bothered posting this at all. GG

    • Throughout my post, when I say "we" or "us", I'll be referring to myself and my clanmates, not the larger community, because I have no desire to attempt to speak for people I don't know. The overwhelming sentiment among my clanmates is that we all enjoy various aspects of D2, but there's no reason to play D2 like we used to play D1, which was nearly every day, for hours at a time. PvP feels much more generic in D2. We miss our space magic. Static rolls make the game seem limited with a relatively small loot pool. There is no armor that functions differently, it's all just cosmetic differences. I personally feel like D2 is trying to be a jack of all trades (looter, FPS, RPG, open world) and because of that, can't really do any of them well. The same was true of D1, but D1 had random rolls and gear perks (looter), a better combination of weapons and abilities (FPS), and more skill tree variety (RPG). The open world and end game content will come, so I'll gladly be patient for that. Regarding the XP earning situation, I disagree with your assessment. There is no way that they didn't realize that the XP being given was different than what the players were being told they were earning. Something like that does not get past quality control / testing, nor is it a statistically small thing. If Bungie had been open and honest up front about how the system was implemented, the outcry, while not necessarily lessened, would've been much different. I would love for D2 to suck up as much time as D1 did, but I'm ok if it doesn't. I'm hopeful for the coming changes that will be discussed today, and I am really looking forward to CoO. I hope Bungie can work towards making D2 a great game, just like they did with D1.

I genuinely CANNOT abide people who say "the next game in a set was meant to be completely different! It's ok guys!". Come off it. Of course you should keep it the same, imagine if you went to a bakery for a bacon roll every day for 3 years, they then promised you that on 01/12/2017 their new, improved, several years in the making bacon roll would be out & you can't realistically buy the old one, only to find out it's now worse... Of course the thing is supposed to be the same, with minor improvements or evolutions. Stop being silly. Stop it. EDIT: People like you are the reason franchises are ruined with sequels. MW3 was NOT a better game than MW2, its was completely different & hated. Halo fans left at H4 because it was too different. I cannot say this enough; Stop. It.
