I always just assumed Saladin is referred to as the Last Iron Lord is because he was until Eifrideet came back and nobody but Saladin and Tyra really acknowledged her and The Guardian (the player) was an Iron Wolf, not a Lord.
Could be semantics, but as I said it's what I thought.

Yeah you’re right to think all that. Honestly I think all this is because Bungie wanted to keep the “last Iron Lord” title on Saladin, and I personally believe that Efrideet should be recognized as an Iron Lord. It’s really up to u what u want to call her because Bungie has been really sloppy with all the Iron Lord title stuff

The introduction of Eifrideet was pretty sloppy, too. I get why they did it (Saladin was too busy standing by one fire to stand next to a giant flaming gong once a month) but I don't recall any lore about her pre-RoI. Correct me if I'm wrong on that last part; I'm not a day 1 player (post DB pre-HoW).

Well back before RoI came out there were Iron Banner weapon’s that each had a line describing a Lord or Lady. There was one or two for Efrideet but I can’t remember what it/they said. All the actual lore on Efrideet, Saladin, and the other Iron Lords came out with RoI
