ALL HAIL CHRISTOPHER BARRETT, SAVIOUR OF DESTINY 2

*AND HIS TEAM So everyone remember Chris? That emo dude with nice shoes from House of Wolves and then Rise of Iron. Well, basically, in my opinion, he was one of the developers that started to make D1 a better game. House of Wolves was (again in my opinion) the start of the turning point for the fundamental changes D1 would go through, for the better. Sir Barrett blesses us once again. All hail the king. New systems and rewards to give our most engaged players additional, optional pursuits. Better incentives for players who complete challenging Prestige activities. Better rewards and replay value for strikes, adventures, and Lost Sectors. Private matches for the competitive community (we are targeting early 2018). Crucible tuning like adjusted Supremacy scoring and better spawning rules. Better incentives for completing Crucible matches (and penalties for quitting competitive games). Continued improvements to Iron Banner and Faction Rallies, including uniqueness of rewards. Changes to make the mod economy more interesting and impactful. Ongoing improvements to Exotics, including adjustments to reduce instances of duplication. New ways to spend surplus currency and materials (looking at you Legendary Shards). An emote interface that allows players to equip Salty, Spicy Ramen, Six Shooter, and Flip Out all at the same time.   There's more we're working on. We'll talk again soon.  -Barrett

    • 1) I'll believe it when I see it 2) any "rewarding incentives" is useless unless they raise max light level. Too many people are already max and the gear's not gonna be game changing enough to switch out before the expansion. My clan's pretty dead, two people are at max and no one really feels like playing anymore. I did flashpoint on reset day and had to load in two or three times before I even saw two other guardians. So again, too little too late.

    • My question is why wasn't this guy in charge of D2 from the start. I watched the Twitch Con panel with him and was like this guy gets it. P.s. was Luke Smith there or did they keep him locked up during the event.

      • People get excited about Bungie putting in stuff that should have been common sense in the first place. "they want better rewards for strikes matches? that's crazy talk"

        • I'm going to risk getting roasted here for a second, but I don't think there is anything wrong with taking a cautious, conservative, and reserved approach to Destiny given its past history with overhyping and delivering underwhelming results. While the list looks fairly decent, I have serious and legitimate questions concerning the new changes, the most serious one being "Exactly how much freedom will Chris Barret have in making/implementing all these changes? Think of Destiny 2 right now as an Economy Car that was engineered to be light and fuel efficient. But in designing the car that way, the car is certainly subjected to certain limitations. Engine size can't exceed certain parameters, or it kills the fuel economy (and might not fit under the hood!). Suspension was only designed to handle a vehicle weighing between X and Y lbs/Kilos, it only has a fuel tank that can hold Z amount of fuel, and the car can only transport 3 passengers + the driver. Now take that same economy car and take it to Chris Barrett's Hot Rod garage and ask him to make the car go faster, be more powerful, able to carry more people, handle better, etc. There's a lot of things he can change to make that car have better performance. But what he can REALISTICALLY do will be based on how much freedom he has to go outside of the limitations of the vehicle. For instance, he could strip the car down to its frame and drop in a bigger engine, beef up the suspension, etc., but at that point, he's basically tearing the car apart and building a brand new car from the ground up. How is this relevant? Well what I'm getting at is that Destiny 2 right now is an economy car. Sure, it gets the job done, but there's nothing exciting about it. At all. How much things can be improved will depend on how much freedom Chris Barrett is given to actually reshape the current game. If he doesn't have a lot of freedom to make wholesale changes in decisions (like the decision to remove RNG weapon rolls), then there is only so much he can REALISTICALLY do to improve the game. In the car analogy, it's like telling the mechanic "improve performance, but within the parameters of an economy vehicle" - i.e., your going to be limited by target fuel economy and engine compartment size in how much improvement you can make to the vehicle's performance. At the end of the day, D2 is an economy car. And unless Mr. Barrett is given a LOT of freedom to remold the very nature of the car, any changes he ends up making to improve the game will still result in just a slightly improved economy car. I'm not being a naysayer here, I'm just saying be cautious about how optimistic/hyped you get about any changes. Lets see the pudding this time around before we go all in.

Barret: we'll talk again soon. Community: "we're listening" X3 Also, going to say this: I know these features should have been in here from the beginning, but isn't it better to hear that they are giving us what we want instead of ignoring our frustration? I for one do not care WHEN it gets fixed, so long as it DOES get fixed. I'm not going to pat bungie on the back but I'm also not going to shit on what they are going to do just because it should have "been there from the beginning" It's ok to voice your frustration, but don't be a jerk about it.

Will be grate if Bungie address core problems of this game like hit registration (phantom bullets), shots thru walls and lag, lag, lag, lag and also lag. Penalties for leaving PVP matches really? if you force players not to leave a match that they do not want to play any more ..... what will happed? ,,,,,,,,,,They will find others ways to express frustration, like sitting i the center of the map and let the other team make easy points, jumping from a cliff ...etc...etc. This is the wrong approach you have to give players strong reasons stay in the matches not threaten them not to leave.

ALL HAIL? They haven't done shit yet, haven't given you a time frame, and a lot of the shit said is vague as -blam!-...but we hailing mother -blam!-ers now? No And to you dumb -blam!-s saying "it should have been in the game in the first place" D2 was in development during ttk. A different team was working D2. No way that shit would have made it into D2. Problem is the two teams working on separate projects and aren't communicating and combining ideas. If you haven't noticed every dlc felt different like it was missing something, or felt rushed, took something out, or broke something. List goes on. There was never any consistency In progress of the game. It was always up..down...down...up...down. Its because there are two teams. One team obviously superior in every way and has to fix shit behind slack team. Example
You're a very good auto mechanic working on an engine. You are having to rebuild it, you have to leave it to work on something else and you're co-working who slacks and doesn't really give a shit about anything starts working on the same engine. If you don't tell him what you changed, what needs work, what is working, and how serious it is that the customer is satisfied? You co-working is going to -blam!- some shit......ALL the way up. Let me add on to this...Twist ending....your boss (activision/Luke/CEO) tells you both to finish fast, and use cheap parts to save money.....ShitStorm inbound. The business is -blam!-ed, you lose credibility, and customer might kick your -blam!-ing teeth in....Or customer will continue bitching wale writing a check for the auto shop to keep -blam!-ing them. Instead of having a brain and leaving.
Let me know If I lost you queens. Edit= and dont forget about this shit . This same shit applies to bungie. Anyone thinking otherwise is a dumb ass. Edit= If they are not communicating well with each other, what makes you think they will with the community? Game will be delayed and unfinished when there is no communication, and when there is a rush to finish/cut corners...Get hyped for destiny 3 and face disappointment again.
