Sounds about right. I bought D2 like 3 weeks ago. I bought Shadow of War a couple days ago. My wife said, "But didn't you just buy Destiny 2?" All I could do was sigh and say "Yup, I'm done with it." "But you play Destiny every night for a couple hours before bed!" "Not anymore."
Was an avid D1 player since launch. Logged as much time in it as real life allowed. Rarely skipped a day. Feels weird saying it out loud like that, but yeah they absolutely killed what Destiny was and the way in which they killed it is practically irreversible considering it is flawed on such a basic and fundamental level.
Shadow of War has been fun though lol.

How's SoW? Loved the first one. Nemesis system is so cool.

I only have about 4 hours logged into it, so I can't say definitively, but I am having a blast and I think it will be fun for a long time. It takes pretty much everything SoM did and added some MMO elements to it. Your character has level progression and a much more diverse skill tree. Some level locked, some quest/point locked. Tallion has more quality of life skills that just make the game in general more fun. The Nemesis system is bigger and more refined. There is actual gear you can use that is level based, so rather than dropping runes, Captains will drop actual gear (swords, daggers, hoods, hammers, chest armor). Gear varies in rarity and power and the better gear has built in perks. The better gear also has challenges associated with it (kill 5 orcs with ranged attacks while health is full) and once completed, you will unlock another intrinsic perk for that gear. I feel like I've done a lot, but I've only just scratched the surface so far. It is definitely a lot of fun.
