"My kid doesn't like the game, therefore everyone's kid doesn't like the game."
English

Hmmm....someone is a little touched....did their words move you to tears? You have to remember from a parents perspective other kids don't actually matter outside the realm of species. We are incredibly stubborn, selfish, and social creatures and it makes sense to put their kid as the poster child for all kids subconsciously. In this case it is less a generalization on all kids and more about the focus of their own kids as that is how a parent will think on the matter. If you think of yourself as a child, I am sorry that their opinion left you out in the cold....abandoned by strangers that you know nothing about, but this Christmas was not made for you it would seem little timmy....
-
Doesn't make the argument any more valid.
-
It does if you actually understand the context.
-
No It doesn't. Just because you're a parent doesn't mean you get to say your kid is a representation of all kids. It doesn't mean you get a free pass from being called out on the fallacy.
-
That's not what I said though. You've read into it completely wrong and admitted to drawing that just from the title. If you can't read into context that's not my fault.
-
This time I'm saying it's not made for kids either, despite what some also say.
Is that not what you said, right after telling your story about your teenager?
-
Yes, and the comment is withing the context of my son's perception and experience. It wasn't a blanket statement it was contextual. SMH

Edited by Never: 10/26/2017 6:07:35 PMNo, you made a blanket statement when you should have made a contextual statement. You actually doubled down and made two blanket statements. What you should have done was corrected yourself after you made the first statement in your title, after giving the context. But you didn't, thus my original comment.

My statements were fine. You just decided to ignore the context. No one else is having a problem with the post so I guess you know where the real problem is.
-
I only made the comment after reading the entire post. Your post is constructed as follows. -Blanket statement to draw attention to it. -Context of what you actually meant -Same Blanket statement written in a different way. Here's how your post should have been. -Blanket Statement -Context of what you actually meant -Contextual statement to correct your blanket statement. If you would have corrected the blanket statement in your conclusion, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.
-
Considering only you seem to have the problem willing to bet this is a non-issue.

My youngest kid has put the game down. D2 is not made for kids either.
It may not be for your family; my 14 y/o nephew plays almost everyday and I play at least 4 times a week. Bungie can't cater to every single player's unique likes and dislikes.
-Skwatoe There's another comment saying essentially the same thing I did.
-
I'll consider it. Just busy with work now. I still don't feel I'm wrong as the vast majority do not see it. That person's post was fairly vague though and was not saying explicitly that I made a blanket statement. I'm not sure what you think your accomplishing here though. Are you trying to teach me something? Because in the grand scheme you are nitpicking. You're not wrong but you're not right. Grammar school was 35+ years ago. I don't need to be told how to make the perfect contextual argument. You're really just wasting your time trying to prove something.
-
The vast majority is an echo chamber of Bungie hating snobs, so they're going to blindly agree with anything that even remotely resembles criticism
-
Thanks for the misinterpretation. Not what I said at all. This is all completely from our perspective and opinion. I'm not like others here, I don't pretend an opinion is fact. Just pointing out that some people liked to say that this game was made for kids when it's clearly not.
-
My youngest kid has put the game down. D2 is not made for kids either.
It's in your title.
-
A title isn't context. You read the full post to get the full context.
-
Oh I read the post. You summarized your child's experience and then concluded that it's not for kids, based on your interaction with your teenager.
-
You didn't read it. The point of the post was to call out the people who were blindly stating "this game was made for kids" and how stupid that state this. Pointing out my son's opinion was just o give perspective.
-
Well think of it this ways. It was made for kid but not all kid. It pretty much the same with "this game is for gamers". Does it mean all gammers?
-
People over analyze. I never said anything about "all kids". Internet anonymity ales people jump to conclusions instead of ask questions.
