Biggest? Hmmmmm Of those Destiny, love it or hate it, it's absolutely Huge Think Overwatch is the best one listed. New IP I'm most interested in is Horizon Zero Dawn. Always liked Killzone, it's biggest flaw was not being Halo, which was kinda sad. Now they can grow outside of the juggernauts shadow.

  • Just saying over watch isn't a small franchise

  • I never said Overwatch was small. I said Destiny is massive and I whole heartily believe it dwarfs Overwatch in terms of size. In the same way that Battlefieldis a huge franchise but Call of Duty is, or was, an absolute juggernaut.

In Terms of players? Money? Content size? Over watch has over 25 million players. Destimy has 8 million.

Over watch has 30 million players. Destiny 2 had 9 million but that went down to 800k.

How long has Destiny, the Franchise, existed? How many players did Destiny have at its peak? How many players has it had over years.

True, so over warch is less popular than destiny. At destinys 1 peak. 20 million. Destiny 2. 8 million. It looks like blizzard failed in making a big franchise.

  •
True, so over warch is less popular than destiny.
Debatable, and no concrete way to determine this. Unless you try to stack up awards or something. But even then you're not getting what the players truly prefer just the "media".
It looks like blizzard failed in making a big franchise.
That's far from what I said, in fact I said it was a big franchise. The question presented here was which new franchise was the biggest from this generation.

Ahhh well over watch is by far then the 100 times smaller than destiny. Blizzard should of made project titan.

  • That number may well be even bigger if consider content size.

  • Millions of times bigger than over watch. Blizzard should of made project titan, it would be been the world of warcraft killer.

  • I don't know the reasons why it was cancelled, didn't really follow the story. But it may be for the very same reason you're likely never going to see a Warcraft RTS. Blizzard would be competing with itself in an already crowded market.

Yes, and that makes me sad. I love Starcraft 2 but what I would really love to see is Warcraft 4. Unfortunatly there aren't any other major RTS games and it would also mess with WoW lore so I doubt it would ever happen.

  • There arent many mmo fps games with massive landscapes, player events. Etc. Titan was supposed to be like star wars galaxies. A game where you can do anything.

  • Theyd still be competing directly with themselves. If Blizzard made another one thier fanbase would potentially be forced to split thier time and money between two franchises. On one hand there are hardcore gamers who can and will sustain both. But there is a far larger casual market that will not. My wife for example plays with a dozen or so of our casual irl friends/family. Meanwhile there are about 4 or 5 hardcore gamers in that same circle of friends. It's tough enough to make a new IP but if you're going to be competing with yourself it's even more risky.

  • Expect the mmo fps would be ompletely different from Wow. I fail to see how it would compete. I blizzard was making my dream game, the biggest game in the world. It would of been bigger than anything, so much to do and become any thing i wanted. Game play would of been like overwatch but player made characters etc. Instead we got a game with no story, just a big pvp game.

  • Hopes and dreams that it would have been the biggest thing ever. WoW is/was the biggest thing ever. Even if the gameplay would be different it would still be a mmo, which requires tons of online hours to play. Your at the very least competing with your own time.

  • There arent a lot of first person shooter mmos. With tons of players, base building. Making your own empire etc.

  • Your looking at it from a gamer and developer point o view. But what about the money backers, the investors? Blizzard tells it's share holders "hey, we're gonna make a FPS MMO." They say "Wait, don't you already have an MMO? What's going to happen to our profits there?" Blizzard "Should be fine, it's a new concept." Holders "Should? New? HURUMPH. We didn't get this stinking rich by dumping our cash cows and taking risks. Good day to you sir." Ok, ok I went a bit over the top, but the shot callers don't really care about content, just the bottom line.

  • Then I'll have to make project titan alone.

  • Could have been great. And something similar may come along down the line. But considering the success of Overwatch it will likely not be Blizzard. Market is a fluid thing and requires trying to predict future to no small amount. Timing is crazy too. Just look at Battleborn and Overwatch. Overwatch completely overshadowed Battleborn even though they are very different games with very different mind sets. Titanfall had a similar problem being sandwiched between two big shooters. Luckily it did well enough and part two was a big hit.

  • Battleborn was just bad timing. Great lore tho.
