Playing as Characters from the Past - Story Idea

Instead of Lost Sectors and Adventures (or as well as) I would love to have seen mini story missions that allowed us to play as characters from the past and do the thing that made them legend. It would be such a good way of giving context to our universe while making all the current and future battles all the more meaningful. I would call them Projections, where we project our light into the allies of our past and experience their Destiny, as a means of rectifying our own. Their Ghosts who had perhaps grown old and worn down could perhaps serve as gateways into the past of their former Guardians. Maybe some of these Guardians could die and that could be the end of the Projection as their final moment, or maybe they prevail as they accomplish things that we find ourselves grateful for upon completing? I don't know about anyone else but the beautiful universe Bungie has created doesn't feel nearly as epic as it should, and there are some really creative ways of giving context to it that we are yet to see.

  • Very interesting idea. The only reason I don’t think bungie would go for it is that they put emphasis on gear and power. Implementing these would require you to switch into a new character of a different class and subclass and lose ll of your gear. But I do love the idea

  • This idea is amazing, it could be implemented in so many ways. And it could add so much more lore to destiny 2 (after all it is in desperate need of some). But imagine playing as Saint-14, Osiris, and even Eris morn... I think destiny 3 (or whatever it will be called) should be based off of you working out the past of D2 and D1 before [b] insert catastrophic scenario here[/b], kinda like Halo 3 ODST.

  • This would be really cool. Imagine that it kind of hearkens back to Dead Ghosts from the first Destiny, where you actually have to find a Ghost in a certain location to view the 'Projection.' (after which, you can access it from the Tower.) Maybe your class would determine whose eyes you were to see the action through, and maybe change some dialogue or the actual course of the mission. Imagine seeing Eris Morn before her Light was lost, descending into the Hellmouth with no clue what lies in the future. Imagine barely scraping your way out of the Vault of Glass as Pahanin. There are so many awesome things you could do with this...

    • They should make a stand alone game set during/after the collapse culminating in one of the big battles - six fronts or twilight gap
