As a "gamer", I don't very well see why anyone would want to call themselves one or be called one anyways... The term doesn't have a positive connotation in my mind. There's nothing wrong with playing games of course, but generally speaking, society doesn't exactly view gamers in the best of lights (understandable to an extent) most of the time. I know that wasn't really what this was about, but eh.

The problem with this is that you're caring too much about what other people think.

Eh, most likely. Probably 'cause of my bother always making disparaging remarks and saying that all I do is stay in my room and play games, which to be fair, due to certain circumstances as of late, that has been somewhat true... But honestly, as much as I like games, there are so many other things I'd rather ve doing with my time and if I had the means to do those things, I would. -
So what's it to anyone else? Play games or don't. Saying that you want to do so withing other than play games but are unable, just sounds like you're trying to prove something. To who? For what purpose? From what I can tell, these negative connotations are coming from you and how you see yourself. But, I don't know you from Adam, so take that as you will.

Hmm, never really thought about it like that. I guess I really do need to let it go.
