The Loot Rewards in Destiny 2 (or... the lack of...)

Edit = I feel I need to start this off by saying; I generally like Destiny 2. I didn't think I would, my wife bought me a copy as a surprise, and most of my negative opinions pre-release have been proven to be wrong. I'm man enough to admit that. So, yeah... I like Destiny 2. Generally, it's a good game. However; my biggest and most prevalent gripe about this game is the lack of Loot and quality rewards. Seriously, Bungie; the "Loot Rewards" (or lack of...) in this game are just -blam!-ing atrocious. I go through a bunch of activities; Lost Sectors, "High value Targets", Public Events, Strikes, etc., and all you get FOR HOURS is Glimmer, Blue items that drop consistently five power levels below your current level, and a Token (maybe 3 Tokens if you're lucky...)? For a development crew that crowed on and on and on about "more and better loot in D2 than in D1", the rewards are pure shit! I can literally play for HOURS and not get a single Legendary engram from ANY of the in-game activities. I get a Legendary drop, it's more from it dropping from an enemy than from an activity. And even then, it's more like: "The system sees that you've been killing enemies non-stop for three hours, but all you've received is Blue Equipment, Glimmer, and a few Tokens; so here's a sympathy-engram... KEEP GRINDING!!!" Exotic Engrams? lol Forget about it... I like a ton of things about Destiny 2. But the sheer lack of rewards for performing the activities the game itself places in front of you, is atrocious and awe-inspiring in all of the worst ways. And I don't honestly understand why this is as it is... After three years in Destiny 1, you guys had the Loot pretty well figured out. The RNG was still triple-dipping (and that sucked balls...); but you not only had consistent rewards as well as guaranteed rewards for various activities, but you offered people a multitude of different ways to get to Max Light regardless of what/how they wanted to play the game. What ever would possess you guys, as a development team, to look at Y3 of D1 and think: "Well guys, we finally got the Loot figured out, and Players are so very happy that they have multiple ways to get to max Light, even though the RNG system still confuses us. For Destiny 2... let's do none of that. Scrap it all and put in a vastly inferior system. Cut down on the number of Equipment Sets available, 3 Sets per Character Class is the definite way to go here! Give them crap Blues and Glimmer most of the time, and they'll surely grind twice as hard to receive less than half of the reward!!"? Bungie: Right now? As of how things stand today? The severe lack of rewards for the activities you place in front of us, is the greatest temptation and incentive to NOT play your game. Absolutely -blam!-ing horrible rewards...

  • Hi, first of all you're right. The rewards are crap! I played alot in d1 and loved the leveling system with the light. Powerlvl now is a sham. I got up to 265 in a day, then began the long grind. Well grind is a big word, a huge word. The only way you can get better stuff is as always the milestones from the nightfall, raid, crucible and 5 patrols. Which we completed in 1 evening, except for the raid. So after 1 evening the "grind" is already over. So as in d1 i decided to make a second titan, since I PREFER to play that class. I payed for the game, so I decide how I will spend my evenings! But today i completed all the stuff for powerfull gear and received my 'awesome powerfull rewards'!!! My 291 titan was soo happy to receive 285 powerfull gear. Why o why do i spent an entire day 'grinding' shit milestones to receive crappy gear 6 plvls beneath my lvl. Imo this game is worse then d1, its boring, small, lacks leveling in everyway and is filled with stupid rules like the timer, no replay of any kind, no rewards whatsoever, just plain boring. The replay factor of borderlands 2 should be the base of every rpg shooter 'wannabe'. You can't be taken seriously if your story is finished in less then a day. And the only way you can lvl is playing 1 night in a week. The rest of the week i have no other option then to play warframe. After 200 days playing I still haven't completed the game. And worst thing is, that warframe is free to play. So a free game has more content then a 65€ game. Shame... They should have added the full destiny 1 game and just added the 4 new worlds to the basic game. Then they should have sold it as it really is, nothing more then a big dlc... Shame on bungie for treating us as sheep, every time...

  • Here's a funny irony about Loot, and Bungie's "vision" for end-game Loot. In an attempt to make it easier for Bungie to keep the Crucible and Weapons/Armor balanced; they removed the "unique" factor from Raid Items, and made them no better/worse than regular trash you find in the game. A side effect of this is: Since Raid gear is now no better/worse than any other gear in the game, what's the point in grinding the Raid for full Sets of weapons or armor? Go through the "toughest challenge in the game" for weapons/armor that is no better than you could get from any old Chest/Vendor as a reward? That's not an incentive to play the Raid at all. With the VoG, Crota's End, the Prison, etc.; there was an incentive to grind out the Raid each week, and on multiple characters. The Raid gear was the best gear in the game, and thus gave you a tangible benefit to the time/effort necessary to conquer the toughest content in the game. With the Leviathan Raid? Aside from Weapon/Armor aesthetics, there's no reason to play the Raid more than once. There's literally no tangible benefit or effect on the game for grinding the Raid to get the gear from said Raid. I love the irony in this conundrum Bungie created for themselves. They figuratively shot themselves in the foot, to appease the "balance at any/all cost" niche crowd.

    • In my experience at least Destiny 2 is way more rewarding than Destiny 1 was. I have gotten maybe 5 exotic engrams already and have gotten 2 just from opening chests or rank ups. In Destiny 1 it was even rare sometimes to get an exotic from a nightfall.

I mean, look, Bungie... I know you guys hate to think of your game as a "Loot farming Game", but when the only method to advance a character in your Action RPG FPS is to continually grind out the various activities to get gear to advance... that's called "Farming", and it makes your game a "Loot farming game". But then to purposefully place the loot tables with the crap low-level gear weighted so heavily against the Player, and then to put in a "Loot Timer" on the Chests that we get loot from, that's just punishing your Players for playing the game in the manner that you designed it. What would ever possess you guys to design a game, that at its Core Design is a Loot Farming Game, then put in arbitrary roadblocks to severely slow down the effects of farming for said loot? That's ... ... so -blam!-ed up. If you give people the rewards that allow them to advance, they'll stay in your game longer, and they'll come back to it much more frequently. After 30+ years of Gaming in MMORPG's, Action RPG's, and Loot Based RPG's, I know that to be a fact.

      • Dude, if they made the rewards drop more often the game would get real boring, fast. However, there are plenty of Armour sets to collect, you have at least 3 different normal legendary sets, the trials set and the raid set, not to mention all the exotics you can collect; and that is for just one class type, you have one of each and that is a lot of loot you have to earn. The same applies to weapons, there are so many weapons you can collect from different factions.

        • Bump. This needs to be seen, and Bungie desperately needs to fix their "reward" structure...
