An interesting observation about D2 Beta Reviews

So I've read all the reviews and opinions on the D2 Beta so far; I've spotted an interesting trend in the opinions from the ones that are saying it's great and are loving it. All of these Bungie defenders have sub 5000 Grimoire, No "From the beginning" node unlocked on Y3 MoT and have 1000 Hours or less gameplay time. You will say Grimoire doesn't mean shit, but it's an uncanny trend that I've spotted. Any D1 Alpha/Beta Vets with 5500+ Grimoire and 3000 Hours logged have anything good to say about this D2 Beta? I'm curious...

  • I didn't know people with over 5500 glimmer and veterans were now a hive mind who all had to have the same opinion...

Been here since the Beta and because I upgraded to PS4 from PS3, I was unable to claim the "From the Beginning" node in my MoT booklet. I have some Year 1 MoT stuff done (Was before I signed up here), yet I also didn't get progress in my book for that either. I also have grimoire cards that were only obtainable in the HoW era, so there's that too. It's a very popular glitch in my observations. The main problem with the D2 Beta is this: From what we've seen and played, Bungie has made Destiny 2 a PVP-orientated game, with PVE elements just tossed in. Destiny 1 was, and always will be, a PVE-orientated game with PVP elements added in. My conclusion is brought up on how weapons handle, as well as our Supers and recharge rates for abilities. It's so horrendously slow that you'll only get your super at the boss fight in the current strike. Grenades take forever to recharge, melee burn damage is extremely slow to recharge, the movement system is catered to PVP (Play Destiny 1, then play the beta, you'll notice very large changes on how your character handles). For players like me, who only played the Crucible for some quick fun while waiting for team mates for patrols/strike/raids, this is very disheartening. PVP in Destiny has once again ruined the PVE side.

    • I'd say they purposely slowed the supers and grenade recharge down to make you use weapons so you can get used to the new setup

      • Been a player for bungie since Marathon so F your 3000 hours of destiny bs. Anyways destiny has its ups and downs. I like the light mmo path they are going with. Definitely room for improvement but they started a genre that I think is amazing. As for gameplay the constant nerfs and buffs of everything and the trials buffs and nerfs greatly effecting the performance of weapons in pve is unneeded. The DLC is quite crazy. With the inconsistencies of the content volume in each dlc they need to price accordingly. Either that or just start bundling a bunch of the dlc together based on story. Pvp, oh man is that stuff all over the place. Im personally salty they keep taking out great maps from the rotations but to each their own on that. And the differences in classes leading to some subclasses being better for pvp than others and making some just plain cheap is pretty silly.

      • Uhh...it looks nice? Overall though both the pve and pvp are a lot more boring, the shift to a more competetive game with everymode locked to 4v4 just means i'll never bother with it, since both modes will be ultra competetive. Heavy ammo is non existent in pve which sucks, weapons in general feel weak or okay, the new subclass balance seems abysmal, the controls feel wonky and clunky. But again it looks nice. On a serious note it seems like a 3 steps forward 5 steps back kind of affair. I can see the super and ability regen rate being bumped back up a bit, the lag issues being adressed and some of the control thigs being fixed, maybe even the warlocks jump having some pacing added to it. But sadly I think the games lifespan is going to be depressingly short, since weapons have static rolls, they are either going to be acceptable or shit, no middle ground, no more interesting rolls that create a niche use, now its just good or bad and I can see weapon variation being at an all time low. Overall, some of the changes are welcomed and more destiny is nice to have, but a lot of the changes make playing the game less enjoyable, all for trying tk make the pvp more balanced which is a part of the game that will never be overly competetive due to the nature of current competetive shooters.

      • Not trying to judge the whole game itself, but from the Beta alone. It feels like a DLC from Destiny that they finally decided to upgrade on looks and sounds. The game overall has taken a weird direction. I personally would've preferred hem to explore the more rpg side of the game and even the MMO aspect. Instead it feels dumbed down to over glorify the FPS side since that's what initially carried them this far. Is it too much to ask for a game to allow me to be a little connected to my character. I'm not saying Warframes is better, or even comparing the two in general. But why can't we have clan structures? My own personal room that I can put achievements so when I go to the Farm those in my fireteam can come to my place. Yes it's stupid, but it's the stupid little things like that that brings more life into a game.

        • I don't like the increase in class specific weapons. I like slower ttk... more gunfights. what's the point of guns if everyone uses anything but? I hate the greened meta. I hate crutch supers 24/7 let's gunfight... I want to shoot you in the head or you shoot me in the head

        • You're just looking to marginalize the group of us that like it. 5500 here and I'm loving it so far. There are different tactics needed in this game - always aim for precision shots, even on regular adds; use your super where it will generate the most orbs for teammates in the strike; don't play the get up close to a boss game as you will lose. Anyone notice we are under leveled as well? 210 to our 200.

            > Any D1 Alpha/Beta Vets with 5500+ Grimoire and 3000 > Hours logged have anything good to say about this D2 Beta? No. What made Destiny 1 gameplay great (its redeeming quality considering what a sad launch it had) is gone and dead forever. Slow movement, slow abilities, weak guns.

I'm a day1er and I find this Beta extremely underwhelming. Especially PvP is nothing like Vanilla Destiny was. I now know that this game will never be that much fun that it was back then. It's a shame.

            • I'm 5500+ with about 5000 hours and I don't have much good to say. Here's my take knowing it's Beta: Boring. It's really apparent the Destiny 2 vision was to fix Destiny 1 problems. That's it. Pure and simple. That is the driving force behind Destiny 2. And, because of that Destiny 2 has no innovation. There's no wow factor because all they sought out to do was fix Destiny 1. They should have fixed Destiny 1 in Destiny 1. It's inconceivable how bad they got this wrong.

              • PvP has completely taking over. It started in D1 when PvP updates would mess with, sometimes ruining PvE weapons. They really do need to keep the two separate.

                • I am a D1 beta player. I have thousands of hours into D1, Grimoire is almost 5500 (I am missing a few ghosts & 3 siva fragments). I liked the strike & the Story mission. I guess I had a few more Heavy drops than most people but overall I agree with the need for higher ammo drops. Heavy weapons are weak in PVE. It took 5 shots to kill the hamsters with the cleavers (not all headshots as it was trying to hit a teammate when I was shooting at it) & grenade launchers take two hits to kill in PVP even when they are right at the base of the opponent. Fusion rifles seem to wreck in PVP though & are weird in PVP. Sometimes when I shot it barely damaged the yellow bar & then the next shot evaporated him so hidden perk? A glitch?. The primary guns are meh. What I do like is the size & scope of the strike & missions, I mean they do feel BIG. I also like the verticality (yes there is no such word but it conveys what I mean). I am hoping the beta allows them to see what works & what doesn't. I will not lie when I say I have huge fears of Bungie screwing this up & making it feel like D1 continued. I LOVED year 1, it was so much fun & I really enjoyed it. Year 2 & 3 not nearly as much. I want the year 1 feeling back.

                • I actually noticed a much different trend. PVP only guys love it while PVE players hate it. There are some pvpers who only played D1 pvp that don't like it as well.

                  • I've got like 1500 hours and I'm a day one vet is that alright? Personally from what I've seen (been at work no time to play yet) it looks like D1 with balanced primary gun fights and less abilities. Love the weapon changes but I do think they need to reduce the cool down times on hunters dodge and all supers. I'm happy it's like D1 though. For all it's crappiness it has some of the best gameplay and it kept me on for all 3 years worth of content (even though I haven't played in awhile).
we'll see tonight if I keep these opinions
Alpha player here. Granted I haven't played the beta, but from all the streams I've seen the game looks pretty good with some needed tweaks here and there. And before anyone says that my opinion is void because I only have a mere 400 hours on destiny, I'd like to ask: why does your 1000+ hour play time give your opinion any more weight than mine? Actually, one could argue that people with large play times will give biased reviews; these people are so attached to d1 that they refuse to accept change be it good or bad. I think it's funny that players in this community scolded bungie for making "destiny 1.5" and yet can't accept changes to the game. I welcome the new mechanics because I want to play destiny 2 (a new game) not destiny 1.5.
