I have a confession to make

i lied about getting a dog in a couple months. why? i got a pupper sooner than that. he's pooped on the floor twice already and learned the command sit. still doesn't respond to his own name yet...or to the command "no". advice?

  • As soon as you see them squatting, tell them no and take them outside. The repetition will eventually drive home. Have plenty of toys for them and make sure everything you don't want destroyed is out of their path. There are different training methods to use as well. I for one use treats as positive reinforcement and a kennel for when they misbehave. Some breeds need large spaces or they will get stressed out. Some also require more playtime. Be prepared for them to be jealous and throw shitfits as well. Mostly though, like children, they need a great deal of attention. And if you aren't giving it to them, they will let you know, one way or another.

    • Try and maintain a fair balance of positive and negative reinforcement. It's one thing to whip a dog's ass for shitting on the floor, but in my experiences, as weird as it sounds, you get much better results out of praising them for shitting outside. Reward him when he responds to your commands appropriately. You'll see results.
