I did some math. They're saying it costs 25 bucks a second to operate right? 25 × 60 (a minute) = $1500 1500 × 60 (an hour) = $90,000 90,000 × 24 (1 day) = $2,160,000 That's ridiculous man. I say forget donating money. We need to lower the damn cost of medicine. This is insane. 2 million a day can cure world hunger for humans and any other living being. There's something that doesn't add up.

  • It's a racket for sure. They used to pull the wool over people's eyes in the past because the general public just assumed that the professionals knew best. But now people are catching on that they are being swindled and realizing that it doesn't cost 3,000 dollars to spend 15 minutes in the ER to only get your blood pressure checked. Everyone looks to insurance but it's really the ridicilous prices that healthcare providers and pharmeceutical companies are trying to get away with charging for ineffective treatments. The only medicine that even cures is anything is antibiotics, which are dirt cheap.

  • It's a research hospital, and they pay for all of the medical bills for their patients. The price is gonna be high but it's for an incredible cause.

  • Dont forget all of the bloated and extravagant senior management/doctors salaries. The CEO of St. Jude makes like 1 million a year alone. Just saying.

  • Salary = importance, skill, knowledge, and necessity. You go to school for 8-12 years, studying your ass off, and see how much youd like a small salary..

  • They do a lot of research and their equipment is pretty up to date, it ain't cheap to run an operation like that but they get massive amounts of support.

  • Its more than that though. Most of these resources are generally easy to come by in that line or work. And more than affordable. The problem is we have big companies who make massive amounts of money off of not just drugs but anything related to the medical field. They set the prices. It isnt about saving lives its about making money. Why do you think cancer is even still around when we found possible cures almost 20 years ago? Cures that arent able to be patented and thats why they arent legal and available. Its a business

that is so true. Anything and everything also requires a lawyer, and those bastards charge big fees. If you want to do anything worthwhile in this world, you need to spend money. Unless you are smart and have ways to budget and cut corners and have friends who can do things for free. But as a hospital they have ton of red tape to cut through and they can't cut corners. And half the time their corporate mentality does not allow them to cut corners or save money. Look at how much money they bill Medicare. And Medicare is always billed at full retail price for durable medical equipment. If you look online you can buy the same equipment at discounted prices. Do you think Hospitals get discounts? No they get everything at retail price. Why? Because again corporate mentality. It isn't all that simple but that is gist of it. If you are small time dentist, you buy shit at low prices, but Hospitals always get screwed on pricing because they have that Corporate mentality.

  • Exactly. Its sickening when the greed and desire to make money outweighs the value of human life.

  • Yep these companies could provide the medical equipment and medical supplies at low prices, if they wanted to. But Hospitals don't mind paying full retail price and above, then why should they change right? Do you think the people who are hired to purchase goods on behalf of hospitals care if they buy things at low prices? I somehow doubt it. They probably make deals under the table for all these things and collect big fat checks under the table. It is all about money.

  • You should ask a Lower Middle class family if they can afford to get another treatment for their sick child. They can barely afford to pay their mortgage.

  • Supporting of families that go through these things too, sometimes making rent and mortgage payments so that families can be there for their children.
