i find it hard to believe gary outclasses oryx in anything if your goal is to erase all life from the universe and you've laid waste to millions of species how do you top that.

Someone already said, much like during twilight gap the awoken saved our ass when it came to Oryx. On top of that, we killed his son, his "step-son"(urrox), and many of his generals, weakening the power he was recieving across the board. Then the awoken literally force him to kill off probably hundreds if not thousands of his own in order to keep from dying in his dreadnaught. (which already took the harbingers head on, which shrekt an entire comet) We did not face conqueror of galaxies, unstoppable genocidal maniac oryx, we faced angry, depressed, battered father Oryx without the legions that usually accompany him. On top of that, on our way to his raid we killed his form on our plain, we killed his priest, his provider of light, and his other kids. By the time he shows up, the fact that it was any challenge at all to kill him is a surprise. On top of that we basically turn his own power against him anyway.

  • How this affects Ghaul is that the Awoken are in discord with no leader besides I guess Petra, and the Cabal's military power is pretty much unmatched. Explosives out the ass, unbeatable tech, it's lucky all we had to deal with so far were colonists and not more like Ghaul. So yeah, all this is what i think made it seem not only like Oryx is weak, but gave Ghaul the oppurtunity to attack the city with little resistence. It was also an actual surprise with no Eris Morn to "disturbance in the force" us and help us prep which again, would definitely help their chances.

  • Oryx was attacked by the awoken and the Cabal. Both slowed him down and bought us lots of time. With what we know right now, it doesn't seem like anyone else is also fighting the cabal.

  • Oryx's fleet didn't make it to Earth. Ghaul's did.

  • Oryx's fleet stopped at Saturn. Which doesn't make sense, he should've just kept going and then blew up the city with his mega weapon

  • true but whats the plot point? im not saying its improbable that the cabal are capable of such a feat im just aaying that there has to be a reason they got to our front door so easily.

Yeah. The cabal captured them and technically they're slaves. The cabal use them to drive their ships and stuff

  • Before the attack, Ikora is talking to Zavala about how all their satellites and sensors aren't working or aren't there. It's in the cutscene before the gameplay.

  • okay but what caused it that's my point its probable that they hacked into the vangaurds defense grid or some other party sabotaged it.

  • I hear that. The only thing I can think of is Gaul being much more strategic and intelligent in his tactics. Oryx could have gotten a bit sloppy since he was immortal and had such a great winning streak.

  • no doubt oryxs plans tended to be lackluster in the campaign
