Maybe it's because I've only seen Age of Ultron once so I didn't see the connection, but how does it rip off TMNT?

Nah not the second one, The original. So it's like this. The Turtles have a small victory against the muggers at the start of the film/The Avengers have a small victory against Von Strucker at the start of the film. The sewer den is trashed by the foot clan/Ultron trashes the Avengers tower. The Turtles have a massive mid film fight that incapacitated Raphael/The Avengers have a huge mid film fight that incapacitated Cap, Thor, and Black Widow. The Turtles retreat to April's farm to recoup/The Avengers retreat to Hawkeye's farm to recoup. Leonardo has a vision/Thor has a vision. The Turtles have a epic final fight that ends on a rooftop/The Avengers have an epic final fight that ends in a city floating in the sky. Then you have the small nuances like Danny who was a thief and member of the foot clan. Technically a bad guy, but who became a good guy. Who do we have like that in AoU? Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. Both are bad guys at the beginning of the film, but by the film's end have switched sides.

that isn't really ripping anything off so much as the problem that all major stories can be broken down into inescapable tropes. every story follows these tropes. similarities are inevitable
