Timeless Ch. 4: Drunk Ghosts and Old Friends

Kendrick dug around in his backpack, searching for his keys. He found everything else: a rune stone, some Silver, a box of raisins. Keys! The titan unlocked his house and stepped in. He sat his ghost on a pillow on his nightstand, then jumped into bed himself. Kendrick couldn't go to sleep. It was only 3:30 pm! Plus, he was still thinking about that Vex stronghold. He had to do something, something to pass the time. Kendrick smiled. The titan climbed out of bed, making sure he wouldn't wake up his sleeping, drunk ghost. Kendrick polished his gold armor and washed his visor. He cleaned both submachine guns and hooked them to his waist. The titan slid his single-horned helmet on, then threw his coat over his armor. He was ready. Kendrick peaked around a wall. This was one of the few times he would actually run a stealth-op. His target wandered around, unaware of the titan's presence. Kendrick had to be careful for if he was spotted, it would be all over. The titan walked around pillars, and crouched behind tables. One wrong move and he would be seen. Kendrick, barely breathing, continued to sneak around. The target began scanning data files, still unaware that it was being stalked. This was Kendrick's only opportunity... Kendrick cracked his knuckles and neck, then snuck up close to his prey. It was now or never. Kendrick grabbed the being by the shoulders, "BOO!!" He shouted. The warlock launched out of his seat with an ear piercing shriek, then rolled across the floor. He looked up to the titan, still panting heavily. Kendrick slapped his knee and laughed hysterically. "D*** you, Kendrick! D***! You!" Lafayette shouted as he stood back up and dusted off his coat. "I regret nothing!" Kendrick said. "Well, except for not being able to see your face... that, I do regret," The two Guardians looked around. Everyone else in the library was staring at them. "It's okay, people. Go back to your business," Lafayette said as looked to everyone. The Awoken turned back to Kendrick, "What the h*** are you doing here?" he asked. "Is it too much to come see my friend?" The titan replied. "Oh, really? You're actually interested in what I do, now?" Lafayette asked, almost rhetorically. "Oh, no. This place is lame. I'm talkin' goin' out on patrols and whatnot!" Kendrick exclaimed. The warlock threw his head back and whined. "Come on, Kendrick! I just want to do my work... I've finally found these books, and this is the second time today you have kept me from reading them," "Wait, you actually want to do this boring crap?" Kendrick asked, almost shocked. "I thought they were holding you here against your will..." Lafayette was straight-faced. "Yes, Kendrick. I want to do this..." the warlock collected his books off the floor and sat them back on the table, then took a seat himself. "Oh, okay... I'm, I'm sorry for disturbing you then..." Kendrick said in sorrowful voice. He began walking out of the building, pulling the door shut behind him. Lafayette opened the book, "Malik's Light" again. He tried to read it, but kept glancing at the door for Kendrick to come back in. Finally, he shoved his face into his hands, "D***it..." he said to himself. He carried the books to the front desk and asked to reserve them. The warlock rushed to the door, hoping to catch up. "Ken-- Oh, good God!" He yelled when he realized his titan friend was waiting right outside the entrance. "Oh, so you missed me, now?" Kendrick asked, with a smirk on his face. Lafayette, now just pissed, force pushed the titan down the two flights of stairs. When Kendrick stopped falling, he raised his finger to the air, "I deserved that..." he said before letting his arm go limp. The two Guardians waited at a shuttle stop, for a ship to carry them to the Tower. Kendrick kept his hands in his coat pockets, while Lafayette had his arms crossed. There was an unnerving silence between the two. "Sooo, what do you do?" Kendrick asked, hoping to break the silence. The warlock turned to the titan, then dropped his hands. "I'm a historian. I research records of humanity's past: Golden Age, Pre-Golden Age, Dark Age. Sometimes, I'll read books Guardians have written: like that one b-- No, nope. Not gonna bring it up..." "Where did you learn about Vex tech and phasing stuff out of time?" Kendrick asked. "I used to work at the Ishtar Academy... you know, before you killed me," Lafayette replied. "Ooh, yeaah..." The titan laughed a little. The warlock chuckled too. "You, and that d***ed sparrow..." The two Guardians waited, amongst, other Awoken, exos and humans. Finally, a shuttle came in to dock, then slid open the doors. People were pushing and shoving each other, trying to get out as quickly as possible. Especially one character. An orange ghost shot out of the shuttle, through the crowd, and past Lafayette and Kendrick. "I'M ON FIRE!! FIIIRRREEE!!" It shouted as it frantically flew down the street. "Was that... Oliver?!" Lafayette exclaimed as he spun around. "More than likely," Kendrick said as he boarded the shuttle. "Comin'?" He asked. Lafayette looked to the titan, then to where Oliver flew to. He slowly, almost reluctantly, boarded the shuttle before the doors shut.
