Suicide Jokes Aren't Funny (Edited)

I will admit I was extremely tired last night and a bit overwhelmed after the whole thing with my friend but I guess it's all opinion. Some people do find suicide jokes funny and whatever so I guess I can't speak for everyone. This was just my opinion and I apologize if I sounded a bit preachy and trying to force my opinions down your throat. Original post:
I just got done trying to talk someone out of commiting suicide. Apparently she was joking the entire time and she was only doing it "for good laughs." Well, I hate to break it to you but it's not funny. Especially for people like me who actually care. Suicide is a serious matter and should not be taken lightly or as a joke. Long story short, I got a message from a friend claiming to have swallowed pills and was ready to die. About an hour later and message after message of me trying to stay in communication with her and trying to get her to keep talking to me, I finally decided to request a welfare check. After she learned my dad was actually a cop and I was being serious, she basically told me she was joking and was only doing it for laughs. And I know, "It's your fault, Sara. You know these people just want attention." I know. But I take this kind of stuff seriously. I always assume they're serious instead of passing it off as an attempt to get attention because you know what? They could very well be serious and I'm not risking anyone's life for that. To those people: stop. It really isn't funny and you get us worried sick. To people making suicide jokes: stop. Telling people to "kys" or drink bleach or to hang themselves with a rope might seem funny to you but you don't know what the person is going through and again, it's not something to joke about. Anyways, I hope everyone had a great day and whatever you're going through it's never the end of the world. And I'm always here if you ever want to talk about anything at all. ❤ LG
• Speaking for myself, I have an appreciation for dark humour. Call me sick, or jaded, both titles fit. Me and my friends often share jokes that would be horribly offensive if overheard outside our clique, but that's just how we are. Sometimes it escalates to sickeningly high levels of disturbing as we one up one another - but I digress. Dark humour has its place. It can be purely for the shock value, or to further bind folks through common tastes, or simply as a coping mechanism for tough situations. It's knowing when and with whom to partake in such behaviour that becomes most indicative of character and maturity. As the world becomes less tolerable of jokes told in poor taste in the name of political correctness, there is a definite correlation to the use and level of harshness in these jokes. Nothing is sacred in pursuit of a good laugh, indeed it never has been. A poorly timed joke said to the wrong person can have any number of consequence, however, and this should perhaps be considered before telling them. Unless you're just a total ass, in which case just do as you do and don't cry about getting slapped out for being a complete tw@ to the wrong person.
