I kind of hope this isn't real. A "mercenary" faction seems kind of lazy, particularly as you can select characters from rival factions anyway.

Seems strange when Appolyon (spelling was a shot in the dark) specifically says in the story (one of the observables) that there is a fourth group that everyone thought was destroyed that she had personally seen. Think the implication was roman.

If it's legit, and I feel like it probably is, I think they likely chose that path because it gives them more options. They can only come up with so many ideas for the three base factions, whereas creating a mercenary type faction allows them to broaden their selections. I really wanted a hammer wielding viking though. :/

Personally, I'd rather they A) add new heroes to current factions or (ideally) B) come up with new thematic factions (Aztec, Seljuks, Romans, Apache, Han, Zulu, etc). If you didn't want to mess with the three faction dynamic you could just make alliances (Seljuks could team up with Samurai against knights, Han could team up with knights against Samurai, Aztec could team up with Vikings due to a shared appreciation for tatoos). I get that that'd require 12 new characters but they could release one from each faction at a time over 4 updates. I dunno, I just feel like a "mercenary" faction is uninspired.

I agree whole-heartedly. I'm excited for new fighters regardless but I don't love how it appears they're being implemented. These are leaks though, and all subject to heavy changes. Wouldn't surprise me if the final result was just the ninja being a new character for the samurai and the centurion being a new character for the knights, although it wouldn't make a ton of sense.
