Why I Think Defenders Got Nerfed And May Need A Buff

Aside from the Hungering Blade collateral, of course, Defenders were already hit hard by this patch. The special ammo nerf hit Defenders in the sweet spot: Their shotguns. Being unable to use shotguns renders armor of light essentially useless for defending territory, as you have no way to protect your bubble. Blessings and Weapons of Light are more PvE perks in my opinion, but when used in PvP, are in a good spot. 10+ armor builds got nerfed as well, so defenders can't tank as well. And now for suppressions. With invective as your only shotgun, what do you do in a panicked situation when a striker pounds you and your bubble into oblivion? You die! (or bait the super and kill him with primary) But this is much harder to do w/ nova bombs. 1 nova bomb already destroys your bubble, why should 2 MORE KILL YOU AND EVERYONE INSIDE? I think Nova bombs with shatter should deal less damage to make up for there being 3 of them. And Hammers. 2 measly hammers pop the bubble, which is outrageous. Then you have what, 4 hammers left to kill everyone inside, and with Explosive Pyre that is not too hard. These are my proposed changes: (may change) Increase the amount of damage a Ward of Dawn can sustain Decrease the amount of damage each Nova Bomb does with Shatter equipped (PvP only) Fist of Havoc does not kill guardians inside bubble when used from outside the bubble (Maybe) Nova bomb does not kill guardians inside bubble when used from outside the bubble Fist of Havoc cannot kill through solid surfaces (thin walls, bubble, etc.) This is it. Sorry for complaining. :P

  • Defender main here. I feel like I was only slightly hurt by the update. The biggest thing for me wasn't the ammo nerf. It's the fact that I no longer get my health/armor fully restored when using my super thanks to the Hungering blade nerf. Placing the bubble has to be a bit more strategic. Yes, we did get a default nerf when they took our shotgun ammo. Yes, it sucks. And I'm a Chaperone user, which places further emphasis on making sure I don't miss my shots. As far as the subclass itself goes, it's fine. Strategy is always a Defender's best weapon. From placing Suppressors to placing a bubble, it becomes a chess game. You just need to know what you're doing before you do it.
