A question on weight-lifting.

So, yeah. A question on weightlifting. To build muscle, you've got to lift heavy right? Small sets, big weights (correct me if I'm wrong). So how do you know if you're doing it right? Seriously. As you're not supposed to feel achy, because it weakens you for your next lift. You take and do small sets to try and remain fresh and ready for the next lift. By the way, this is information I've accumulated, its not mine. And I'm not a rookie, I can lift a decent weight. Just need to build a bit of mass and muscle.
