Seems like a reasonable loophole to close.

 •
except it's not really, just media fear mongering over a nonissue. it's always been legal for a lawful adult to make their own firearm in accordance to laws and regulations in the U.S. regarding length, caliber, and configuration and criminals aren't buying out kits on the internet.
• Sure, people can build their own guns but what is the harm of adding a serial number on the parts, especially if they all come in one kit? And you can't say criminals aren't buying them this way because there is no way to tell if the people buying this way are criminals. Hence the loophole. The kit system is an easy, legal way to get a gun. Much easier than trying to purchase each individual part and also much easier than trying to buy one on the black market. A background check and serial numbers to help identify these kit guns is reasonable if you actually care about keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and terrorists.

 •

there are holes in your argument that you don't see. criminals mostly commit crimes with stolen handguns, not AR parts kits or DIY receivers. in fact rifles hardly matter at all in terms of crime stats so requiring serializing all parts for control purposes would do nothing but make a needlessly complex nightmare for the average joe if a part were to break and make a logistical headache for all parties involved as well as overburden the gov't. the vast majority of background checks(to the tune of around 98%) are just law abiding citizens so that doesn't really stop crime but serve as a feel-good measure, and hardware stores are a thing. and then there is the logicless appeal to emotion at the end that is a fallacy because "think of the children" can be used to justify literally anything, usually by used politicians with a fascist statement looking to shutup their opponents in public and in front of an ignorant but loud majority voterbase. also, hardware stores are totally a thing so this is even more of a non-issue. the point of this thread is how ridiculous this "news" source is, and how dishonest journalism is becoming

🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢you have been visted by a gammy numnums turtle-doggo. he mastr of disguyz, he says have niz slep and shar wit 10 peopl pls;
• I don't see how it would cause a headache for anyone. It's a serial number that can easily be stored in a file and kept on record. There is nothing strenuous about it. Background checks too aren't much of a hassle. And saying most guns used in crimes are stolen isn't entirely accurate. Most guns used in gun crimes are rarely recovered. Four men were arrested in California for illegally making and trafficking more than 50 guns. Two of them sold three AR-15 style rifles to a CI with a criminal record. Another one brought parts to the same CI and built two AR-15s in front of him. They were all semi automatic rifles being sold to a criminal without background checks or any identifying marks. All because some people exploited a system that can easily be regulated with two simple solutions.

 • Because serial numbers contain numbers and numbers are science and science is a sin
